MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Jejomar Binay paid his last respects to the comedy king Dolphy on Saturday at the final tribute held at The Heritage Park in Taguig City.

Binay pushed for the proclamation of Dolphy as a National Artist, saying the comedy icon did a lot for the entertainment industry.

“Sana ‘yung pagkilala kay Dolphy as National Artist ay naibigay noong siya ay nabubuhay pa, but it’s not yet late para ipaabot sa kanya ang parangal because he really was an icon among Filipino artists,” said Binay.

The vice president said he was a long-time fan of Dolphy’s show “John En Marsha,” wherein his late daughter-in-law Kennely Ann “Ken-ken” Lacia-Binay also performed.

Binay expressed his condolences to the Quizon family, who earlier thanked him for assisting them in transfering Dolphy’s remains from the hospital to the memorial park.

“We would like to personally thank Vice President Jejomar Binay for assisting us in bringing my dad to Heritage Park. Para hindi maging magulo, tinulungan kami ni VP and ni Mayor Junjun [Binay] sa pagdala dito,” said Dolphy’s son Epy.

Dolphy passed away on Tuesday after succumbing to multiple organ failure. He was 83.
