VALLEJO, California – On the day of the burial of the Philippines' King of Comedy, Dolphy was also remembered here by his family, friends and fans in a memorial mass at the St. Catherine's Church in Vallejo, California.
Father Jesus Soriano's homily discussed Dolphy’s greatness as a performer and as a human being, while his loved ones talked about how important he was in emotional eulogies.
Among them were Alice Smith, known in the '60s as actress Pamela Ponti, who was Dolphy's partner for 20 years from 1962 to 1982. They have four children --- Ronnie, Eric, Dana and Epi.
Smith said Dolphy was the only man in her life.
"Ang regret ko lang hindi ako nag-stay. Sumuko ako," she said. "Dolphy, I don't want want to say goodbye. I just want to say thank you for the memories and thank you for my children."
Justin and John Kevin, meanwhile, are Dolphy's grandsons from his eldest child, Manny Boy. John Kevin was even named from Dolphy's two most popular television characters John Puruntong of “John en Marsha" and Kevin Cosme of “Home Along Da Riles.”
"I think everyone can learn a thing or two about my grandpa. He taught us the strength of family and compassion. We also learned to cherish our blessings no matter how big or strong they were," John Kevin said.
"You brought light into a struggling world and portray yourself as a true humanitarian. Your legacy will not be forgotten and will live on," Justin added.
According to Dolphy’s family, the comedian may be the King of Comedy for fans. But for his loved-ones, Dolphy is the "King of Hearts,' someone they will always remember for the rest of their lives.
