Oprah to Charice: Career first before love life
MANILA, Philippines - The "world's most talented girl" is putting her love life on hold, at least for now.
YouTube sensation and future "Glee" cast member Charice said she is following the advice of her godmother, celebrity TV host Oprah Winfrey, to concentrate first on her career before entertaining suitors.
"Sabi po niya kasi alam niyang naka-focus ako sa career at sa family ko. I think gusto lang niya munang i-maintain ko muna 'yon kasi yon minsan ang problema ng teenager sa States parang pag-nain love yong focus ay nawawala at may (negative issue) na nakakasira ng image," Charice said in an exclusive interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com
(She told me that she knows I'm focused on my career and family. I think she wants me to maintain that because the problem of some teenagers in the US is that when they fall in love, they lose their focus and there are negative issues that destroy their image.)
Charice said Oprah has been very consistent in reminding her to do the right thing. "From the very beginning and until now, she's always giving me advice," she said.
Charice, who was dubbed "the most talented girl in the world" by Oprah herself, said she sees nothing wrong about following her godmother's advice.
"It's really OK. I'm not ready for that now and I am really enjoying myself," she said.
Asked if she has a lot of suitors, Charice replied: "Hindi naman sila 'yong mga seryoso. Feeling ko ‘yong mga online suitors, siguro mga joke, joke lang yon."
(I don't think they're serious. Those online suitors, I think, are just joking.)
She also denied rumors romantically linking her to heartthrob Justine Bieber.
"Wala po. Mga trip trip lang po talaga ng iba yon. Kasi siyempre siya ang nakasama ko sa Oprah. Ganoon lang po yon," the singer said.
(That's really nothing. It's a rumor started by some people because we both appeared on Oprah.)
Charice is in Manila for a series of mall shows to promote her album. She is set to return to the US on July 18 ahead of her scheduled taping for the hit TV series "Glee" where she will play a Filipino exchange student.
Araneta concert with David Foster & Friends
After taping for “Glee,” Charice will be back in Manila on August for a major concert at Araneta Coliseum on August 23.
She said the concert will be extra special since she will be joined by her mentor, international composer-producer David Foster.
"Sobrang happy ako na 'yong first na naman ay kasama si David Foster kasi napakalaki ng role niya sa life ko. Ito lang yong way na kahit super full yong schedule ay gagawin ko to promote him, ganoon talaga siya ka-special for me," Charice said.
Charice said she will share the stage with international artists such as Peter Cetera, Canadian Tenors, Ruben Studdard and Natalie Cole.
