Vilma Santos: Ralph may run for senator
MANILA – Socio-economic planning chief Ralph Recto might run for senator in next year’s national elections, his wife, Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos, said Wednesday night.
"Nothing is final pero ang alam ko ay tatakbo siya [sa pagka-senador], although nothing is final yet," Santos said during the press conference of her upcoming television documentary series "Vilma: A Woman For All Seasons."
Unlike her husband who is eyeing a national position, Santos reiterated that she is not interested in running for vice president. The actress-turned-politician explained that she is not yet “prepared for that.”
"Kung tatakbo man ako ulit another term as governor but definitely not as vice president," Santos stressed.
When asked what could change her mind, Santos said: "Hindi ko alam. Ganyan din daw ang sinasabi ko noon na hindi ako tatakbo ng governor and yet naging governor ako. Kasi iba nga 'yong pina-plano, iba naman 'yong talagang destiny.”
“Kapag destiny hindi mo na alam what will happen. Pero kung ako talaga ang tatanungin hindi ko naman ambisyon talaga. [Pero] you cannot fight destiny. Kapag talagang tinalaga ka doon wala kang laban,” she added.
Is she supporting any presidential contender? "Wala pa, mahirap maipit. Ang alam ko kaibigan ko lahat. Si Manny Villar ay miyembro ng Wednesday group so ayaw ko muna mag-isip," Santos said.
