MANILA, Philippines - Actress Sunshine Cruz, wife of Cesar Montano, on Wednesday hit back at talent manager Norma Japitana for criticizing the actor’s move to sign a contract with GMA 7.

The controversy is now a subject of Philippine Artists Management Inc.'s (PAMI) investigation after Japitana filed a formal complaint against Montano. Japitana, who handled Montano’s career for 24 years, complained  that the actor did not inform her about the contract signing.

Cruz, however, disputed Japitana’s claim. In her Twitter page, the actress said Montano spoke to Japitana over the phone 4 nights before his contract signing.

“He texted her several times a day before the signing and the morning before he signed he tried reaching out but there was NO REPLY. I hope she would have the decency to talk to us rather than having interviews. I hope she could just be happy for the family," Cruz tweeted.

Cruz also cleared that Japitana only handled her hubby’s career on a per project basis.

"Tita Norma is always out of the country. A lot of projects have been closed by Cesar alone like Nature's Spring, etc. but there wasn't any violent reaction from her. The supposed Star Cinema project that she's talking about wasn't pushing thru according to her and that was the ONLY time hubby decided to grab the opportunity to accept the offer on gma 7,” she tweeted, adding:

“She KNOWS about the offer, I was with hubby when he spoke to her over the phone and proof is on cesar's call log. Sorry. I needed to release my sentiments."

Japitana was reportedly negotiating a project with Star Cinema for Montano when the contract signing with GMA 7 took place.

Cruz said she "gets hurt" every time her husband “is being labeled bad things.”

"My husband doesn't want to say anything bout whatever issues there are with regards to his manager but as a wife, I get hurt that he is being labeled bad things. I know for a fact na hindi nagkulang si Cesar. I was there when he spoke to her over the phone 4 nights before his contract signing,” she maintained.

Japitana has been managing the careers of a number of celebrities including singers Rico Puno, Nonoy Zuñiga, Marco Sison and Rey Valera.

Montano is a former ABS-CBN talent. He hosted "The Singing Bee" for a long time before it went off air.

His last TV appearance on ABS-CBN was when he accepted an offer to be a guest co-host of the now defunct hit noontime show "Wowowee" for 4 days.
