Aquino family spokeswoman rebukes Willie
MANILA - A spokeswoman of the Aquino family on Friday issued a strongly worded rebuke against "Wowowee" host Willie Revillame for ordering the removal of the video of President Corazon Aquino’s cortege, which was being beamed live simultaneously with the noontime show last Monday.
A statement from Dee Dee Siytangco, spokesperson of the Aquino family, read: "It is regrettable and a crass attempt to desecrate the memory of the beloved Tita Cory."
On Monday a visibly irked Revillame ordered the immediate removal of the livestream video of Aquino's cortege, which was being shown simultaneously with his show.
The controversial host explained that it was inappropriate to broadcast it while they were having fun inside the studio. He added that it would be hard for him to make the public happy when he could see on screen the casket of Mrs. Aquino.
"Paano kami makakapagsaya [kung] nahihirapan kami? Huwag niyo akong papagalitan kasi totoo ang sinasabi ko. Pagkatapos ng show, ipakita niyo ang gusto niyong ipalabas. Kasi itong ‘Wowowee’ gusto ko, at alam din ni Tita Cory dahil napasaya rin siya ng show na ito, [dapat] laging masaya dito," Revillame said.
His staff immediately removed the live streaming from the screen.
No bad intention
The host later apologized on television for his action and said he had no intention of hurting anyone's feelings.
“Sa sitwasyon na ito, kung may nasaktan ako, I'm sorry. Sa pamilya Aquino, alam ng buong pamilya Aquino [na] wala akong masamang intention doon. Ayaw ko pong nagsasaya tayo dito, mayroon tayong labi na nakikita sa TV," he said on Tuesday.
He said that prior to the incident, he called ABS-CBN entertainment production head Linggit Tan asking her to remove the live streaming. He told Tan that he does not want to come across as someone without a conscience.
“Nakakahiya. Sabi ko, ‘ako ang nakaharap sa camera. Sa akin magagalit.’ Nagsasaya [ako]. Akala niyo wala akong konsensiya,” he said.
He said he only reacted after he saw the funeral procession again on the screen.
He also divulged that before the airing of his Monday show, he even told ABS-CBN management that he was willing to give way to the live coverage of Mrs. Aquino’s funeral.
The host appealed for the understanding of the public.
Revillame's action condemned
Revillame's action drew instant criticism from various quarters. In their Facebook accounts, some people branded it as “utterly disrespectful,” “really bad,” and “damn stupid.”
One online commentator wrote: "Very rude action on national tv. I condemn this act to the fullest. Very insensitive." Some, however, said ABS-CBN management was equally to blame for allowing "Wowowee" to air while Aquino's procession was ongoing.
An online petition, which has gathered 9,709 signatures as of 3 p.m. Friday, urged ABS-CBN management to sanction Revillame for his arrogance and for showing a bad example to the youth. It also urged advertisers to stop supporting "Wowowee" until Revillame is removed as host.
The Alyansa ng Filipinong Mamamahayag (Afima) also issued a statement condemning Revillame's action as a "blasphemy of democracy" and urged the Movie and Televisions Review and Classification Board to sanction the TV host.
"He may have the right to demand it, but he never waited until the next commercial break to quietly do it. He expressed his angst against Corazon Aquino funeral being shown side by side his “Wowowee” right before the dumbstruck millions of Filipino viewers around the globe," Afima said.

For my own opinion it was just appropriate that the airing should be stopped. cause it is much insulting to Aquino's clan if Wowowee is having fun and the nation was mourning for Pres. Cory's death. Why should you judge Mr. Revillame that way? one thing the Aquino family had already forgiven him, why should we Filipino react violently with this issue? Put yourself on Mr. Willie's part. As a host, would you like to see those people mourning while YOU are having fun. Hey! realized! I just cant get why MTRCB is so over reacting on this! Or they just want to be SOMEONE. come on MTRCB you are not moral in your judgment. haha ! if mr. revillame violates human rights then what about YOU? arent you violating to? wake up! we want him back on his show!!

Who is be fooling. He might had fool Kris's leg but I am quite sure he didn't fool majority of the TFC subscribers. I know that among the Aquinos, kris has a little KSP problem or in English term as ADD Syndrome. Therefore, Wille know who to apologized to right a way. Charo, just fire the guy.

Here's greatly misunderstood Willie again. I think, and sincerely believe (I still do), that Willie's intention was genuinely good when he requested the live video snippets be removed from the screen. Unfortunately, the way he delivered his appeal to the network was EXTREMELY ARROGANT.... For the love of Christ, when will he ever learn to speak with softly (translation... civil, diplomatic and dignified)...
Add note, I salute the thousands of brave souls who showed their love and respect to President Corazon Aquino. President Aquino's magnanimity and nobility shall live forever because she served the Lord with joy.

Willie Revillame
Much has been said about Willie Revillame regarding that video snippet of Cory’s funeral cortege during his noontime show “Wowowee”. I am one of those who think that this incident gave the show a little smudge that particular Monday. Please do not get me wrong, I am an avid fan of the “Willie-of- Fortune” segment which, for me, gives the show its “social soul”.
Willie was right on his complain about the video insertion...if the show must go on. But I find his ranting in front of the cameras distasteful. He could have chided those concerned and requested the deletion of the video snippet off camera. Just like a boss chiding an underling in the privacy of his office away from the prying eyes of the other people, conscious not to embarrass anybody. But then again, Willie is a little “show-off” and bossy. That was not the first instance he showed irritancy in front of the cameras for people who erred or who have done some things not to his liking. This often happens and I am pretty sure this embarrasses them, him being oblivious I suppose.
Sadly, this incident was even exacerbated when he took a hard line in his next day’s explanation. That had a little tone of arrogance. Humility would have done the trick.
I hope Willie takes his cue from here.
PURE INTENTIONS.....
On the first place po mr willie, you were true to yourself during that time. Your intentions were pure. Ang mali lang po siguro ninyo objectively ay ang pag repremand po nnyo sa mga staff po ng WoWoWee na on air po kayo nagsalita. Still we are many supporting you. There are many people who are taking advantage of this incident mr willie, just be strong. Pay no mind to those who talk to you behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead.^^. They might be one of the foundations of the show business in the Phil, yet they are still very UNPROFESSIONAL, How stupid po. Maraming salamat.
Outburst of Emotion
The way too many people reacted on this issue is understandable, but the way how some people would like to 'crucify' Willie (so to speak) is very disheartening.
We all love Pres. Cory and her demise caused grief and pain in our hearts because she touched our lives in one way or another and her greatest contribution of bringing back our democracy made her truly an icon. We love Pres. Cory for so many reasons and it is understandable that during those time of grief, outburst of emotion is expected from any one of us...just like what happened in Wowowee which resulted to all sorts of reaction.
It is understandable how many people reacted so hastily. Just when I've first heard about this issue....I felt bad, but when I read the full context of Willie's pronouncement and the footage itself...then I understood what was behind it. True, he should've tried to compose himself and said it off the air instead of taking 2 minutes talking on air. For alot of people, the way he said it was wrong. But come to think of it....Yes he said it because he felt that is not proper to simultaneously show the cortege of Pres. Cory while they're having fun in the show. He was never against the airing/coverage of Pres. Cory's, in fact he was even willing to give his show's airtime just to give way for Pres. Cory's funeral procession. But I must say that Management's decision prevail. Lapses in decision is obviously seen on this.
Willie admitted his fault and apologized primarily to the Aquino family and to all of us who he may have hurt. He received understanding from the people who should've been affected the most-Pres. Cory’s family, but cursed not by Pres. Cory’s family …but by people who are led by their emotions and not by rational thinking.
In any kind of situation we are faced…it really shows our true colors. Much have been said against Willie out of anger, but can we just for a moment try to listen and watch the footage if Willie really said something against Pres. Cory’s funeral procession. What he was against for is the AIRING OF HIS SHOW WHILE THE INSERT OF THE CORTEGE IS SHOWN AT THE SAME TIME. If we were on his shoes, how would we feel? Can we show so much energy and stand to have fun knowing the fact that the nation is grieving?
Let us not be subjective! Willie is Willie. He may have his bad side and failed on too many things in life, but it is undeniable that he gives so much smile whenever he’s on tv. Yes, it cannot justify his being rude, but he never killed or robbed anyone!
In this kind of situation where one of our comrades (so to speak) made a mistake…..can we just be more matured to take this on a manner not to create chaos and instead try to accept the apology and understand why the person did it or have said it. Let us not try to call on others to embrace hatred and anger!
To all Judgmental and level headed Filipinos, grow up!
Yes, Willie was absolutely right, the whole nation was in grief, and it was not appropriate to air live footage while Wowowee is giving joy to the its audience. ABS=CBN is also a part of this mess; they should know balance programming either.
To all Filipinos, why we reacted so badly? This is just another non-sense issue and doesn’t deserve much attention. We have many things to look into, let’s focus on our lives, how we can be of beneficial to our country and worthy to be called Filipinos.
Willie is Willie, let him be----he humbled himself by giving public apology and I believed the Aquino family accepted his apology yet in fact they should be the worst enemy of Willie but they never did, they live the character that was being instilled by their great parents-for being forgiving!
Let us also not forget how Willie bring joys and smiles to the poor Filipinos, I’m sorry to say this, but I am ashamed that we Filipinos is easily forgotten the goodness / kindness of very human being, we are very judgmental that’s why we never grow up, we are never moving forward---we are still stick on a rotten attitude of being envious.
Willie brought so many smiles to the poor Filipinos despite being deprived their rights as Filipinos. Willie had willfully offered help & extended so much love & care for the needy, Why MTRCB reacted this way? Because of a violation? or this is just a dirty trick Wowowe competitors .Why all this government agencies, media practitioners never cared about the poverty?
Remember Filipinos, majority of our population composed of the grass roots and they will never understand such violation of Willie. They will continue to flock and patronizing the program because they believed the government has done nothing to uplift their poor living condition, Wowowe is there opening doors for them and gives hope.
