(UPDATE) Willie on leave 'indefinitely'
MANILA – Willie Revillame is on leave “indefinitely” in the wake of the controversy generated by his order to cut the simultaneous live broadcast of the procession of President Corazon Aquino's remains from his noontime show last August 3.
“Yes, naka-leave [siya]. From his (Revillame) own text [message] to me, indefinitely," Bong Osorio, head of ABS-CBN's corporate communications, told abs-cbnNEWS.com in a phone interview.
In an interview with the entertainment website, Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP), Johnny Manahan, a Star Magic executive, said Revillame "has been asked to go on leave" beginning Monday, August 10.
Revillame, YES! magazine's most powerful entertainer, has been conspicuously absent from his show since Saturday. His female co-hosts, Mariel Rodriguez, Pokwang, Valerie Concepcion and RR Enriquez, have taken over “Wowowee” in his absence.
"He feels isolated and beleaguered... I don't know when he will be back. Maybe, he will soldier on and do the two-week leave, or again, he may be back next week. Meanwhile, he has a real time to rest, be alone, and contemplate the future," Manahan told PEP.
Manahan defended Revillame from critics who have lashed at the host for being "arrogant." Contrary to criticisms, the Star Magic executive said the “Wowowee” host is "simple, compassionate and a pushover."
Manahan also pointed out that the "Wowowee" host would never disrespect the late former president and her family. Manahan admitted though that Revillame did not carefully choose his words when he ordered a stop to the live broadcast.
The live broadcast showed the transfer of Mrs. Aquino's body to Manila Cathedral from La Salle Green Hills on August 3, prompting an irked Revillame to have it cut.
Revillame explained that it was inappropriate to broadcast the funeral procession while they were having fun inside the studio.
Revillame's action last Monday drew instant criticism from various quarters, particularly in various online forums.
On August 4, Revillame publicly apologized, but said he was standing by his decision to have the simultaneous broadcast removed on air. He also disclosed that he had asked ABS-CBN entertainment production head Linggit Tan to remove it, and that he only blew his top when he saw the broadcast again on the screen.
He also said that he never meant to offend people. He said his only intention was to give respect and make the occasion a solemn one.
Osorio, meanwhile, said Revillame has already “apologized and the Aquino family has accepted it.”
Face value
Cory's son, Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, on Monday said he was willing to accept Revillame’s explanation.
“I take what he said at face value, na wala siyang insultong gustong iparating sa aming pamilya,” he said.
He added: “Pero I understand he talked to our eldest sister, Ballsy, yesterday. At gusto ko lang tingnan, siguro nga naman hindi appropriate na may solemn occasion na parang kino-cover [tapos], on the other hand, meron kang show devoted to eliciting laugher and fun,"
The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board is eyeing possible sanctions against Revillame as it urged the Kapisanan ng Broadkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) to immediately resolve the issue.
In a letter, Diana Gozum, chairwoman of KBP standards authority, already asked the ABS-CBN management to answer the complaint of MTRCB against Revillame within five days. -- With a report from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News

simple lang naman ang kailangan d2, admit mo ulit sa national tv ang mistakes mo pareng wil. nag-apologize ka nga, pero nanindigan ka na walang mali sa ginawa mo at alam mong tama ka sa ginawa mong pagpapaalis ng inset video. magalit na kung sino ang magalit pero alam mo sa sarili mo na walang mali sa ginawa mo....pero pareng wil,yung alam mong tama,sa karamihan or sa pangkahalatan eh mali.so bakit mo ipagpipilitan na tama ka pero sa nakakarami mali ang iyong ginawa?...try to analyze again the situation...accept the fact...accept your failure this time...wag kang magmatigas,hindi kabawasan ang magpakumbaba sa bawat pilipino dahil naniniwala ako na ang bawat pinoy marunong umunawa at umitindi lalo na sa mga taong marunong mag-accept na pagkakamali at marunong magpakumbaba. a piece of advice,pag ginawa mo yan, mas maraming hahanga na pinoy sa pagiging humble mo at mas lalo kang mamahalin ng madlang pilipino...basta nandito ang mga bad at good comments to become you a better person. thank every filipino for their sentiments.

dapat lang sa pagiging arogante at yabang ni PUPPY babalik at babalik sa kanya ang masamang ugali niya at lagi niyang sinasabi dati sa show na malungkot daw ang mag isa lalo na pag gabi. Mas naging enjoy at wholesome ang wowowee ngayong nawala si Willy. Mas ok na pure and clean humor ang napapanood sa wowowee ngayon kesa nung nandun si Willy na halatang parang nang huhunting lang babae na kanyang maloloko at masisila nya sa kayabangan at pera nya. Nawala ang pressure sa mag co-staff at crew nya..dahil palaging naninita na akala mo na sya lang ang puedeng magkamali sa show at ang staff hindi dapat. Kaya ok na pong wala si Willy.

Sir Wilie-Help HOSPITAL for OFWs
The sentiments of majority have already heard all over the world and perhaps the ABS-CBN mgt have already realized that the voice of the nation is really powerful. In fairness to other hosts like Tokwang, Mariel, Valerie and RR they maintained the show even without willie, yun pagtulong sa mahihirap ituloy lang nila and I am pretty sure the show will continue to prosper. Yan ang kailangan ng maraming tao ang pagtulong sa kapwa.
Now, in fairness to Willie, he is good as a host, apparently, di nawawala sa kanya yun pagka-rude specially to his staff and audience. Mahirap kasi on-cam siya kung saan marami ang nakakakita at nagagalit. Now to put back the trust of majority specially kaming mga OFWs, tulungan mo kami, instead of spending too much money for your mall infront of ABS-CBN station, mag allocate ka ng maliit na amount at tulungan mo kaming magpatayo ng isang HOSPITAL para sa mga OFWs. Yun ang prostration ng mga OFWs kasi pag- resigned at naospital ang lahat ng naipon nauubos pag-papa-ospital nawawa ang perang pinag-hirapan. Kawawa naman sila. Kaya SIR WILLIE since you have strong connections and billions of pesos, tulungan mo kami, UMPISAHAN MO LANG ANG PROJECT NA ITO AT TATAPUSIN NAMIN. Dito kung matutulungan mo kami for sure makikita ito ng lahat ng OFWs all over the world na may puso ka para sa amin. Ito ang prostration ng mga OFWs ni isang Senator o Congressman walang nakaisip nito para sa OFWs pagod na kami sa kanila. Ex-President Cory Aquino led the people to bring back Democracy, now she became the reason and woke up the Wowowee viewers to bring back Decency on TV. Enough is Enough, your daily Abusive, Nasty, Sarcastic words and innuendos towards your Staffs, Dancers, Contestants, Audiences (Esp. Ladies) on air should not be acceptable to a noontime show where kids are in your audience and at their homes. EB Host Joey said you are cheating in your games, I considered it cheating when you know where the prices are and so you can manipulate the poor contestant. When is the last time you give away the big prices? You brag about your wealth but you forgotten where you got it from. You got it from your viewers and TFC subscribers, but mine is ending the minute you come back into the show. I have been in your Wowowillie website asking you to stop snapping at your staffs on air and be fair in your games and giving away prices but I guess you will never listen. Randy Santiago should take your place at least he can really sing.

we love TFC! we love wowowee! we love watching Willie! He's a comedian who makes people laugh and comedians in general make fun of people and that is a fact! yes, his statement came out as being selfish and arrogant but he didn't mean it that way. his fans know and i'm sure his friends do know that he was misinterpreted. look at the video. i urge you to look at it in this perspective: a split screen of a dancing woman and a split screen of a woman in a coffin. don't you think it was inappropriate? exactly! it was troubling to him to continue with the show while they are showing a split screen with President Cory's funeral procession. He knew it was inappropriate and disrespectful. He didn't mean 'it's either me or Cory'. he even preferred to be taken off air and just show the live feed of the procession. Everyone should just calm down and get along. Haters will always be haters. Jealous people will always believe they are not. This happens to everyone in their personal lives. Wowowee will not be the same without Willie. He is the main reason why people watch Wowowee whether you like it or not. It is a fact. Let's all move on.
