MANILA -- Veteran actor Christopher de Leon is hoping that his son Miguel, who has been diagnosed with testicular cancer, will be able to recover soon.

Miguel, De Leon's son with actress Sandy Andolong, is still confined in the intensive care unit of the California Pacific Medical Center in the United States.

According to De Leon, Miguel already underwent chemotherapy but he is also counting on prayers to help his son's recovery.

"A lot of people have been praying for the recovery of my son from my community and the other community, and a lot of people, friends," De Leon said at the sidelines of "Ikaw Lamang" press conference on Tuesday night.

In the hit primetime series, De Leon will take on the role of the older Franco, originally played by Jake Cuenca in the soap's Book 1.

"You know what's nice about social media and Facebook? A lot of people are praying and getting involved with one another and thank God for this and you could shout on FB and (other) social media sites. I'm hanging on to this but it's curable thing, it's a treatable thing. It's going to be ok ayin God's time, it will be okay," the veteran actor added.

De Leon explained that Miguel was born with "testicular germ cell tumor" and had first operation when he was only five years old.

"I don't want to call it cancer because Big C for me, the big C is Christ. He had an operation when he was five years old pa lang, tapos nag-metastasize siya, papuntang lungs. We saw the x-ray at napunta sa lungs and that's what they are trying right now to eradicate. He underwent chemotherapy for five days then they have to stop. And what they need now is CT scan," he said.

But despite what they are going through, De Leon stressed that he never questioned or doubted God.

"The thing is you have to realize that in a situation like this, it's always in God's time," he said, noting that it further strengthened their family bonds.

"Like my son, who lives in New Zealand, he is there right now taking care of Sandy. And Pinky de Leon was there on the first day na inatake ang anak ko. She right away flew from LA to San Francisco. Hanggang ngayon nandoon siya," he said.

Asked where he gets his strength, de Leon replied: "Things like this ('Ikaw Lamang') I'd like to be busy and hopefully sana payagan ulit ako to go back. I think kailangan namin mag-taping ng mag-taping until makapondo. I don't know."

"What I'm doing right now is setting up my son's recovery after all the treatments and after he leaves the hospital. I have to set up 'yung bahay nila sa San Francisco ...to make it easier for my son to completely recover from this."
