Piolo asked to play young Ninoy in film
MANILA - Hunk actor Piolo Pascual was offered a cushy role in Star Cinema's upcoming film about the late President Corazon "Cory" Aquino, who died on August 1.
In the movie, Pascual will play the young Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., Cory's husband.
"Yes, I got a text from my manager, Tita Mariole, and we got the text. Sabi ko, it was really an honor," Pascual said.
Pascual excitedly shared the news with his mother, whom he said is very proud of his upcoming role.
"When I told my mom about it, sabi nya, 'Anak I'm very proud of you.' Those are few times na maa-appreciate mo talaga na God is really good. So kung if ever matuloy 'yon, I'm just really excited and overwhelmed," he said.
Pascual also told ABS-CBN News that it was Kris Aquino, Ninoy and Cory's youngest daughter, who considered Pacual to play the role.
"Sinabi ni Ms. Kris kay Tita Mariole, kung matutuloy, it will be an honor to portray somebody na talagang national hero natin. Kapag nangyari po 'yon ay talagang grabeng grabeng blessing po 'yon. Grabeng reward na 'yon. I mean, ibang level 'yon, Ninoy 'yon," the actor gushed.
"I grew up, of course, knowing the guy as a hero. Pagbubutihan ko talaga," he said.
If the project pushes through, Pascual said he will definitely consult with the Aquino family to make sure his portrayal of the young Ninoy is accurate.
"At hindi lang 'yon, aaralin ko talaga ang buong buhay niya. I will do everything I can para pag-aralan ko kung sino ang national hero natin. Ibang klase talaga 'yon," Pascual said.
Currently, Pascual is working on his upcoming series, "Lovers in Paris," with his on-screen partner KC Concepcion.
