Eliminated 'X Factor' contestant defends Charice
MANILA, Philippines -- Aspiring singer Jerriane Templo, who was the first finalist to be eliminated from "The X Factor Philippines" defended her mentor Charice against critics over the controversial voting that happened on the ABS-CBN show last Sunday night.
Charice has been lambasted for voting to eliminate versatile crooner Mark Mabasa from the competition.
On Wednesday morning, Templo stressed that her mentor doesn't deserve the attacks.
"Ako nakilala ko na si Charice off cam. Malungkot ako for her kasi 'yung bad publicity na lumalabas. Hindi niya deserving na magkaroon ng bad publicity kasi ang nakikita ng tao sa camera ay ibang iba (sa personal)," Templo said in an interview with "Umagang Kay Ganda."
On Monday, judge-mentor Gary Valenciano also defended the "Pyramid" hitmaker, saying that Charice and fellow "X Factor" judges Martin Nievera and Pilita Corrales were torn between eliminating Mabasa and boy band "Take-Off."
Charice's vote to eliminate Mabasa led to a split decision among the judges. Two of the judges, Nievera and Corrales, voted to boot out boy band Take Off, while Valenciano and Charice chose Mabasa.
In the end, Mabasa was eliminated from the competition after garnering fewer votes than Take Off.
Like Valenciano, Templo also appealed to "X Factor" viewers to do their part and support the contestants.
"Magaling naman talaga si Mabasa. Wala namang question doon pero talagang votes lang ang pinagbasehan. Kaya kung may gusto silang mag-stay, kailangan talaga nilang bumoto," she said.
