MANILA - Kathryn Bernardo said she would be overjoyed if offered to star in a possible remake of "Pangako Sa 'Yo," which originally starred Kristine Hermosa and Jericho Rosales.
The "She's Dating A Gangster" star was asked about the rumored project on the sidelines of a press conference launching her as the first celebrity endorser of Nails by Chic Centre on Tuesday.
While Bernardo did not confirm reports that she and onscreen partner Daniel Padilla have been cast in the supposed remake, the 18-year-old actress expressed excitement over the prospect of bringing the pioneering "teleserye" to a new generation.
"Wow! Grabe, sobrang saya talaga. Kasi parang lahat tayo, alam 'yung 'Pangako Sa 'Yo.' Walang taong hindi nakapanood no'n, bata palang ako noon," she said.
Bernardo added: "Kung bigyan ako ng chance na gawin 'yon, sobrang, sobrang saya no'n gawin. Isa 'yun sa mga classic talaga na teleserye. Sobrang thankful."
Originally aired in 2000, "Pangako Sa 'Yo" centered on sweethearts Yna (Hermosa) and Angelo (Rosales), who are anguished over the discovery that they might be half-siblings. When secrets from their parents' past unravel, Yna and Angelo are relieved to find out that they have no blood relation.
The top-rating teleserye was also popular for the rivalry of business tycoon Amor Powers and hacienda matriarch Claudia Buenavista, respectively portrayed by Eula Valdez and Jean Garcia.
Since 2002, "Pangako Sa 'Yo" has been aired in over 20 foreign territories, making it arguably the most successful Philippine TV series to air internationally.
