Kathryn Bernardo ventures into music
New acting project without Daniel Padilla
MANILA - Dubbed local showbiz's "Teen Queen" for her consecutive successes on TV and the big screen, Kathryn Bernardo is looking to expand her career with the upcoming release of her debut album.
Bernardo talked about her foray into music on the sidelines of a press conference launching her as the first celebrity endorser of Nails by Chic Centre on Tuesday.
According to Bernardo, she finished recording the album with six songs and a number of bonus tracks last Friday. She is set to shoot the album cover this week.
"Tutok talaga ako dito," Bernardo said. "Binigay ko ang 101% ko dito sa album na 'to, so sana abangan niyo at magustuhan niyo."
She cited as inspirations American pop stars Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande. Locally, Bernardo said she considers Sarah Geronimo and Yeng Constantino as her music idols.
Bernardo has already recorded a song before: "Ikaw Na Nga Yata," which is featured in the local airing of the Korean series "Pretty Man." It is unclear, however, if it will be one of the tracks in her debut record.
Asked why she decided to come up with an album, the 18-year-old actress said: "Kasi, of course, ilang years na sa teleserye. Gusto ko rin naman maging open sa iba-ibang mga puwede kong gawin. Like, pag may chance so hosting or sa singing, [gagawin ko]. Para hindi ka lang sa isang genre."
Bernardo was last seen in the box-office hit "She's Dating the Gangster," opposite consistent "love team" partner Daniel Padilla. On television, the two last co-starred in the primetime series "Got to Believe," which concluded in March.
Following the success of their latest film, Bernardo said she and Padilla will be doing separate projects. She revealed that she will top-bill a "Wansapanataym" miniseries, which will run for a month, but said the rest of the cast members cannot be announced at this time.
