‘Caparas respects SC decision’
MANILA – Controversial director-producer Carlo J. Caparas will abide by the decision of the Supreme Court (SC), his wife said Tuesday.
"Hindi naman po kasi kami ang nagbigay ng award. So, paano kami aapila? Bahala na ang Diyos at ang due process. Whatever the Supreme Court decision will be, we will abide by it," Donna Villa said.
The SC on Tuesday issued a status quo order preventing Malacañang from conferring the Order of National Artists to seven individuals including Caparas.
The high court issued a status quo order while it resolves a petition seeking to disqualify Caparas and three others from the Order of National Artists.
Caparas’ critics said President Arroyo committed "grave abuse of discretion” when she added the names of Cecile Guidote-Alvarez (theater), Caparas (film and visual arts), Francisco Mañosa (architecture), and Jose “Pitoy” Moreno (fashion design) to the final list of this year’s National Artists.
Supporters of the movie director, who is known to be close to President Arroyo, came to his defense. Veteran actor Eddie Garcia, for one, said Caparas deserves the National Artist award.
"Si Carlo ay qualified to be a National Artist. Sa dami nang ginawa niyang stories, mahigit 800 yata iyon, at sa dami nang pelikulang ginawa niya, he is qualified," Garcia said.
He maintained though that he respects the opinion of those who oppose Malacanang's decision to include the name of Caparas to the National Artists roster.
"Ang tao kasi kanya-kanyang opinyon iyan. Kung opinyon nila ay hindi karapat-dapat, ang opinyon ko siya ay karapat-dapat," he said.
Garcia is one of the lead stars of Caparas' newest trilogy "Pangarap Kong Jackpot."
Caparas to run in 2010?
In the wake of the National Artist controversy, meanwhile, Caparas divulged that he is planning to enter the world of politics. Caparas said he might run in 2010 elections to defend the rights of the poor.
"Alam mo sa mga nangyayari ngayon, sa mga pangyayaring nagaganap sa paligid at sa mga tao, nakita ko na maraming mahihirap ang [inaapi] ng mga nasa mataas na uri at antas ng lipunan natin.
“Sa palagay ko, dahil sa napakaruming pamumulitika ng ilang kababayan natin, sa palagay ko ang maari nating iganti doon ay isang malinis na pamumulitika," Caparas said.
Currently, Caparas is promoting "Pangarap Kong Jackpot" starring People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao, Jake Cuenca and Garcia. -Reyma Buan-Deveza, abs-cbnNEWS.com
Respect
Yeah, I acknowledge the fact that he has contributed a lot to the industry.
Regardless his tact and recent actions does not merit him a national title.
He is vengeful and cannot accept God's will. He would rather take matters in his own hands,
i.e. Run for Politics.
And for his "personal greed"
At this point, it is no longer debatable,
Caparas is not deserving to be a national artist.
CAPARAS, ET AL NOT WORTHY OF THE TITLE
Carlo Caparas should shut up his big mouth. He is not worthy of the title "National Artist". He should be ashame of himself. The people knew his political relation with Mrs. Arroyo. They "corrupted" the National Artist title.
P1.3 Billion PCSO Scam
Caparas was the brains behind "Ang Pangarap Kong Jackpot" and "Kroko," which are shown on government-owned TV stations NBN 4 and IBC 13.
KURAPSIYON ANG NAGAWA NI CAPARAS SA INDUSTRIYA AT BAYAN WALA NG IBA PA. SUNOGING NG BUHAY SI CAPARAS!!!
