Ex-lovers Kris, Robin exchange vows onscreen
MANILA, Philippines -- Former real-life lovers Kris Aquino and Robin Padilla exchanged wedding vows on Thursday in a scene in their upcoming reunion project on television.
In her official account on micro-blogging site Twitter, the actress-host on Thursday shared images showing her wedding scene with the hunk actor.
The scene will be shown in the anticipated Kapamilya drama series "Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw."
Padilla and Aquino first met when he was invited as a guest in a TV special celebrating her 18th birthday, "Kris at 18," in 1989.
At the time, Padilla was beginning to make a name for himself as an action star and future "Bad Boy of Philippine Movies."
Taken by Aquino's charms, Padilla said he decided to woo her by writing her a love letter.
The love affair, however, proved controversial, as there were rumors that former President Cory Aquino, Kris' mom, did not want Padilla for her daughter.
In an interview with StarStudio magazine in 2010, Padilla said that he will never forget how the youngest of the Aquino children fought for their love.
Despite disapproval, she would still bring Padilla to some events in Malacañang.
Admitting his addiction to drugs then was partly to blame, their relationship soon came to an end.
More than a decade since their controversial romance, Aquino and Padilla reunited onscreen in the action film "You and Me Against the World" in 2003, and later in the defunct noontime show "Pilipinas Win na Win" in 2010.
Now, the two are cast opposite each other anew in the upcoming series, where she plays Roxanne and he plays Bogs. Also starring actress-host Anne Curtis, "Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw" is expected from a primetime telecast later this year.
