MANILA - A 54-year-old man from Cebu was named the grand champion of the second edition of "Stars on 45" after leaving the judges in awe during his performance on Saturday.

Ricardo Marcial, who won the weekly finals with his use of the falsetto, performed Earth, Wind and Fire's "Reasons" and Destiny's Child's "Stand Up for Love" on "It's Showtime."

He got a perfect score of 10 from the studio audience and was quick to draw praises from the judges, which included singer Jay R Sillona and musical director Gerard Salonga --the brother of broadway star Lea Salonga.

"Like I said, I'm a big fan of singers with a great falsetto and you have an impeccable falsetto. And the thing about it, it is so strong na parang nagiging chest na nga eh," said Sillona.

"It's so clean na maski habang naglalakad ka, may control ka pa rin. Galing," he added.

For his part, Salonga said: "There were moments that I forgot I was watching an amateur singing contest."

He explained: "If there's one thing with a performer, you will make mistake. It always happens. But there were moments really that I would've paid money just to watch you perform."

Before his performance, Marcial dedicated a message to his mother back in Cebu. He also thanked the noontime program for providing a venue for singers like him.

"Maraming salamat po at bukas po ang inyong entamblado para sa aming Stars on 45. Regardless of race, age and gender, buong puso niyo kaming tinanggap," he said.

"Sa aking dakilang ina, hindi po sapat ang pasasalamat para po sa pagpapalaki niyo sa akin ng magisa lang. Maraming salamat Ma. Mahal kita," he added.

The message moved Salonga, who commended: 'Yung sinabi mo sa VTR mo. That was very inspiring. I'm glad I saw it and I'm very touched by everything that you said.

Marcial won P300,000 as the grand champion.

Finishing first runner-up was Ma. Teresa Linan from Mandaluyong City, who took home P200,000. Carlito Garcia of Cavite was named second runner-up, winning P100,000.

The winner of the first edition of "Stars on 45" was Haydee Manosca from Taguig City.
