MANILA – PBA legend and actor Benjie Paras said he and his wife never fail to remind his sons Andre and Kobe to have a forgiving heart.
This comes after the two boys refused to be reunited with their mom Jackie Forster even after the former actress’ made steps to reach out to them.
“Sinasabi namin sa mga bata na huwag isasara ang pinto. As of now, masama ang loob niyo, natural iyan, pero kalalakihan niyo rin iyan,” Paras said in an interview with “The Buzz.”
Paras, however, said he can only do so much because it is still be up to the boys to decide on when they would want to talk to their mother.
“Sinasabi ko lang na hindi lahat ng oras na magulang ang nasusunod lagi sa pagpapalaki sa mga anak. Kailangan pakinggan natin ang mga anak natin. Ako pinapakinggan ko sila and doon ko bine-base kung ano ang gagawin,” he said.
He added: “Nag-decide sila na hindi sila sasama, nirespeto ko na lang po. Sinasabi ko na huwag niyo isarado ang pinto dahil dadating ang time na male-let go niyo ito and maaayos lahat.”
In a previous interview, both Kobe and Andre said they are convinced that their mother is only out for publicity with her recent actions to supposedly get in touch with them.
After posting a music video on YouTube containing a message for her sons, Forster sat down for a nationally televised interview on "The Buzz" to relate her struggle in communicating with her children.
The 15-year-old Kobe didn't mince words in saying he hasn't given a thought to his mother's pleas.
"Wala, I don't care, kasi I'm happy with the life I have now. I have a new mom, she's better and she treats us the way that we want to, and not like what she (Forster) did to us," Kobe said.
Paras and Forster were married in 1994, but separated in 2001. Their marriage was annulled in 2003.
In 2007, Forster left for Singapore, and eventually moved to Malaysia, where she started a new family with her Dutch husband.
Paras, who has full custody of both his children with Forster, is now married to Lyxen Diomampo, a former preschool teacher and commercial model.
