Abunda: Filipinos not insane, dangerous
MANILA, Philippines - Popular television host and talent manager Boy Abunda cried foul over the negative criticisms Filipinos are getting because of the August 23 hostage drama at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila that killed 8 Hong Kong tourists and hostage-taker Rolando Mendoza, a former police officer.
Abunda, who is hosting the nightly entertainment show "Showbiz News Ngayon," used the first few minutes of his show with co-host Bianca Gonzales to pour out his emotion about the harsh comments and tirades against Filipinos.
Filipinos have been severely criticized by some foreign observers because of the tragic aftermath of the 11-hour standoff in Manila.
The host particularly felt insulted after reading comments saying that Filipinos are "insane" and "idiots."
Also grieving
Abunda, an educator, stressed that Filipinos are also grieving over the death of the 8 Hong Kong tourists because of the isolated incident but it does not mean that all Filipinos are bad and "the most dangerous people on earth."
"Napakaraming negatibo po ang nasusulat ngayon sa mga foreign journals, sa mga babasahin around the world tungkol sa nangyaring hostage crisis sa may Luneta Grandstand. May mga nagsusulat that Filipinos are idiots, that we are insane, that we are the most dangerous people," he said.
Abunda felt that Filipinos have the right to defend themselves from malicious comments by proving themselves to be good people.
"Ako lang, ang pakiramdam ko po, I think it's also our responsibility to defend ourselves. Hindi po tayo idiots. Hindi po tayo mga sira ulo. It was an isolated incident and to the victims, to the family of the victims, to the people of Hong Kong, personally I'm apologizing. We are grieving with you," he said.
"We are apologizing for the mistakes that we committed. We take full responsibility. Our government is doing something about it but to go beyond it, lalo na ‘yong mga observers around the world hindi naman (tama to say bad things about Filipinos). We are good people, we are loving people, we are caring people," Abunda added.
"And you know what we should do? Every Filipino around the world should prove everybody wrong who said that we are idiots. You know how? Be the best of who you are and let's prove to the whole world that we can be proud of being Filipinos," Abunda said.

Why can't he be an educator?
A parents are educators, cab drivers are educators, as to everyone here are educators. As long as you are alive life will educate you....lol. But I know, we are speaking of certain standard in society that we esteem with the highest regard in education. However, did you know that some peeps are educated beyond their intellect?.......that to me is scary....lol.

Mr. Abunda, an educator? You must be a showbiz person. Calling him educator is inappropriate knowing that he never contributed to any improvement intellectually of what he seem to educate.His tv show just repeated what we have been reading from papers,juggling worlds to impress. His specialty is "educating" masses from lives and rumors from showbiz people....is that an educator???

Educator?
You called Abunda as an Educator. Wow! Is this the right word you are supposed to use? Will it be more appropriate if you just used teacher? They are synonyms but I think educator is more of a higher level and an expert in teaching. Is he expert on that field already? Likewise, I heard he is teaching at PWU on a subject I do not know but did he pass any licensure or board exam that he is qualified to teach? What does the PRC doing about allowing Abunda to teach at a university if he did not pass any board exam? Just asking. Is PWU making fun of teachers who burned their brows for many years? I totally agree with you, how this fag deserve to be called an educator wherein i havent even seen his face in pwu, i graduated from this school and i havent learn anything with their money grabbing policy, its no wonder they have a 21% passing rate in nursing, to anyone dont go to this school or your just wasting your parents money here

Boy Abunda means well. unfortunately we Filipinos just dont like being preached at, being corrected or told to correct our not so desirable ways. there will always be less than perfect Filipinos, who are idiots and will always be idiots. we just have to have a degree of detachment and objectivity, and not take things to heart.
