Singer-songwriter and Eraserheads vocalist Ely Buendia has been released from the Philippine Heart Center on Saturday after recuperating from heart surgery.
Doctors performed an angioplasty on Buendia after finding that one of the arteries in his heart is blocked. It was the third time for the singer to undergo such an operation since 2007.
Buendia was rushed to the emergency room of the Makati Medical Center on August 30 after he collapsed while taking a break following the first set of the reunion concert of the Eraserheads. After receiving emergency treatment, the singer was transferred to the Philippine Heart Center where he stayed for a week.
According to Day Cabuhat, the manager of Buedia's new band Pupil, the singer is in much better condition.
Buendia is also grieving the death of his mother, who died of cardiac arrest on August 28. At the time of her death, she was supposed to be recovering from surgery done to treat her cancer.
Buendia's family, friends and the rest of the Eraserheads blamed the emotional stress caused by his grief and his physical exhaustion from band rehearsals for the incident that abruptly cut the reunion concert after only the first set.
Buendia's mother is set to be buried on Sunday, September 7.
