MANILA - Actress KC Concepcion, who is the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) national ambassador against hunger, hopes to end hunger through her “hoodies” (hooded sweatshirts) and shirts.

In a press statement, WFP announced that the agency and Concepcion teamed up with BAYO, one of the leading apparel brands in the Philippines, to raise public awareness on hunger and provide meals to school children in conflict-affected parts of Central Mindanao.

Under the agreement, BAYO will market Concepcion’s hoodies and shirts under its “YOU” campaign. This is Concepcion’s first venture as a fashion designer.

“Every time you buy a hoodie from the YOU collection, you will be giving a hungry child the chance to learn and enjoy a healthier life,” said Concepcion, adding that the partnership with the apparel brand would enable WFP to provide 150,000 school meals to children in Mindanao.

As BAYO endorser, Concepcion was able to convince the company to channel its social responsibility program towards helping WFP fight hunger.

The partnership also aims to create awareness on WFP’s global “Fill the Cup” campaign. The campaign aims to raise funds for school meals and highlight the fact that 66 million primary school children in developing countries regularly turn up hungry for class.

“WFP thanks both KC and BAYO for this initiative. We are proud of KC’s commitment to do more to support children in conflict-affected areas of Mindanao through WFP,” said Stephen Anderson, WFP Country Director in the Philippines.

WFP provides school meals to around 75,000 children in 427 schools in Sultan Kudarat and North Cotabato.

WFP is the world's largest humanitarian agency and the UN’s frontline agency for hunger solutions. In 2009, WFP aims to feed 108 million people in 74 countries, including 20 million children in schools.
