Reality TV star Khloe Kardashian is reportedly the frontrunner to host "The X Factor" USA.

The 28-year-old “Keeping Up with the Kardahsians” star impressed TV bosses with her bubbly personality and witty comebacks during her screen test, and producers including Simon Cowell want her to present the Fox reality show in a bid to attract younger viewers.

A source told TMZ.com: "There's at least an 85% chance she'll get the job."

Kardashian is said to be the first choice over other contenders including Kelly Osbourne, Mario Lopez and Stacy Keibler in the fight to replace Steve Jones as the host of the show's second season.

The feisty socialite recently expressed her interest in the presenting job, saying: "I'm a big fan of 'The X Factor.' I've always wanted to do hosting or talk show hosting, so it's definitely something that I would love to do and would be honoured to do.

"To be on such a huge show like that with those judges, I would have so much fun doing that. I love Simon (Cowell). I think he's amazing."

Kardahsian has a free schedule after suspending filming of her E! reality show “Khloe And Lamar” to let her basketball player husband Lamar Odom get his sports career back on track.

If successful, Kardashian would join judges Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, L.A. Reid and Simon Cowell on the live shows when they begin in October.

Britney has panic attack

Meanwhile, Spears almost quit 'The X Factor' on her first day, according to Cowell.

The “Toxic” singer signed a rumored $15-million contract to appear as a judge on the star search show, but had a panic attack on her first day and walked off set.

After admitting his team "half lied" when they said she only needed to go to the bathroom during the live auditions, show boss Cowell told website TMZ: "No one is going to admit that on the first day your highest paid star after 20 minutes has walked off set.

"[She] had a moment on the first day where she said to me 'I'm not sure I can do this.'"

Cowell managed to talk her around and filming for the US version of the show then went ahead as planned. However, Simon also warned Spears was much harder to please when it came to judging singers than he thought she would be.

He said in a press conference: "You know how when you buy a dog, you expect it to lick you, and then it turns out to bite you? It was rather like that.

"It was a real surprise. She's really, really difficult to please. But in a way I think it made it more interesting because she just wouldn't say 'Yes' for people to like her. And when you do these auditions in front of 5,000 people, they boo you."
