Vhong switches gears for horror flick
MANILA, Philippines -- Known for his comedic antics on noontime TV, actor-host Vhong Navarro is thrilled to switch gears for his latest big screen outing.

"Pinagkaiba [nito sa 'Bulong' at 'D' Anothers'], hindi namin masyado magiging comedy," Navarro told ABS-CBN News on the sidelines of a press conference of the latest installment of the film horror series "Shake, Rattle & Roll."
"Dito, hindi ako magpapatawa masyado. Medyo serious siya kumpara sa mga ginawa kong movies," he added.
An official entry to the upcoming 38th Metro Manila Film Festival, "Shake, Rattle & Roll 14" will feature an "end of the world" episode starring Navarro and actress Lovi Poe.
Although he has starred in a number of horror films in the past -- "Bulong" and "D' Anothers" -- they were also billed as comedy movies.
"Nakalakihan ko ang 'Shake, Rattle & Roll,' simula nung one. At ngayon, sa 14, finally makakasama na ako," Navarro said.
Known for its yearly theatrical offerings, the popular horror anthology released its first installment in 1984. In 2005, the Regal Films-produced series returned with its seventh installment, which was then followed up with annual sequels.
"Exciting kasi nakalakihan ko," Navarro said. "Kumbaga marami ka nang idea na nasagap, so alam mo na 'yung mga nagawa, at alam mo rin ang mga hindi. At the same time angsarap din dahil si direk Chito (Roño) ang aking direktor."
Roño is also Navarro's manager.
For his "SRR" debut, the Kapamilya actor will topbill an episode titled "Unwanted." According to Navarro, the episode shows the end of the world as it happens inside a mall.
"Sinasabi natin hindi natin alam, baka ito na 'yung end of the world. Mangyayari ito sa mall. Una maganda, ta's biglang mag-iiba itsura niya. Magastos itong episode na 'to," Navarro said.
Directed by Chito S. Roño, "Shake, Rattle & Roll 14" is expected to hit theaters on Christmas day.
