Jake: Jessy is worth fighting for
MANILA -- "Some things are worth fighting for, and I think Jessy is one of those things."
This was the statement of Jake Cuenca when asked whether he is indeed courting Jessy Mendiola, his co-star in the upcoming ABS-CBN series "Maria Mercedes."
Speaking with reporters at the sidelines of a bloggers' conference held Friday for the remake of the hit "telenovela," the 25-year-old actor was also made to address an earlier "announcement" of actor Sam Milby of his intentions to court Mendiola.
"Hindi ako gano'n manligaw. Anything I have to say to Jessy, I'll say it to her in person. It's more sincere that way, and gano'n naman talaga ako manligaw," Cuenca said.
"Never naman ako nag-announce na nanligaw. Magugulat nalang ang tao na girlfriend ko na. Magkaiba naman talaga kami (Milby), hindi naman pare-pareho manligaw ang mga lalaki," he said.
Milby, in an earlier interview, denied he and Cuenca are not in good terms. This, after Milby was reported to have closely "guarded" Mendiola at last Saturday's Star Magic Ball, supposedly preventing Cuenca from being near the actress.
"We don't need to make this issue bigger than it is. Sinabi ko na nililigawan ko siya (Mendiola), that's how it is. There's no issue between Jake and I," Milby said.
Admitting he accompanied Mendiola for a greater part of the night, Milby explained it was simply his way of "[showing] my interest, that I want to be around."
On Friday, Mendiola admitted Milby is not the only person courting her at the moment. She also shared Cuenca recently sent her food at home.
"Hindi lang iisa [ang nanliligaw], pero hindi ko naman sinasabi na sobrang dami. Syempre nakakaganda 'yon sa babae. Nakakatuwa naman i-share na I'm being admired by a lot of people," Mendiola said.
