MANILA, Philippines – Beauty queen Maria Venus Raj said she agrees with 2011 Miss Universe third runner-up Shamcey Supsup's thoughts about God and her faith in the pageant's question and answer (Q&A) portion.
Speaking to ANC’s “Tamano Perspective,” Raj said if the same question was asked to her, she would definitely answer the same way as Supsup did.
“No way. I’m not [gonna change religion for someone I love]. I’m a born-again Christian. Shamcey’s right. If someone loves you, kailangan he should accept you. Ako talaga I think the very first criteria na hahanapin ko sa isang lalaki is if he’s also a believer,” she said.
In the Q&A portion of the contest, Supsup was asked by judge Vivica Fox if she would change her religion to marry the one she loves.
"If I had to change my religious beliefs, I would not marry the person that I love because the first person that I love is God who created me and I have my faith and my principles and this is what makes me who I am. And if that person loves me, he should love my God too," Supsup answered.
Meanwhile, Raj said she would have answered differently if she was presented with the same question that was asked to her during the 2010 Miss Universe pageant.
“Just now I realized, may mistake nga talaga akong nagawa. First of all, for the past 21 years, parang I’m just so easy go lucky person. To that point parang hindi ako sinusubmit yung life ko to the Lord fully. If I was given the chance to be a Christian ever since, siguro from the beginning, siguro mula noong ipinanganak ako... I would answer differently,” she said.
In the 2010 pageant, Raj was asked: “What is one big mistake that you’ve made in your life and what did you do to make it right?”
Raj's reply was: “You know what, sir, in my 22 years of existence, I can say that there's nothing major major problem that I've done in my life because I'm very confident with my family, with the love that they are giving to me. So thank you so much that I'm here. Thank you, thank you so much.”
Raj finished 4th runner up in the 2010 Miss Universe pageant.
