WATCH: A cappella 'N Sync medley wows 'Showtime'
Spotlight on a capella groups in new contest
MANILA -- A six-member a cappella group wowed "It's Showtime" on Tuesday to become the first-ever winner of the program's new segment, "Jambunganga."
Street Voice, which is composed of vocalists from separate bands, performed a medley of songs by the defunct American boy band 'N Sync, including "Here We Go," "Pop" and "It's Gonna Be Me."
The Antipolo-based group scored 9.7 out of 10, beating Manila's Acamitaters, which only got an 8, in the debut edition of Jambunganga.
The new segment, which was launched last Saturday, pits a cappella groups in a contest favoring fresh musical arrangements and the use of voice as individual instruments.
Jambunganga was introduced to replace the recently concluded group dance competition, Bida Kabakarda, with Rizal Underground winning overall.
The a cappella competition joins other hit segments on "It's Showtime," including the celebrity look-alike contest "Kalokalike" and the impromptu acting show "Sine Mo 'To."
