Ai Ai: Sorry, PNoy
MANILA -- Ai Ai delas Alas apologized to President Benigno Aquino III on Friday, after Malacañang was made to address his supposed involvement in the comedienne's controversial marital spat.
The 48-year-old actress, who is known to be a close friend of President Aquino's youngest sister, Kris, issued a statement in response to rumors linking the top official to her legal case.
"Nag a-apologize po ako sa Pangulo dahil nadadamay siya sa isyu ko samantalang matitindi ang hinaharap niyang problema ng bansa," delas Alas said in a statement sent to ABS-CBN News.
She added: "Nahihiya po ako sa kanya dahil wala ho siya talagang kinamalaman sa anumang problema ko."
On Wednesday, Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda addressed an allegation, supposedly made by businessman Jed Salang's lawyer, that Aquino is "meddling" in delas Alas' legal tiff.
Salang is the estranged husband of delas Alas.
Noting Aquino is preoccupied with the crisis in Zamboanga, Lacierda said the actress' case is not even in the "radar" of the President.
Delas Alas was embroiled in a controversy early this year for her marital woes with Salang, whom she married in a civil wedding on April 3. They separated a month later, with delas Alas accusing Salang of domestic violence. The case has since been brought to court.
In June, Malacañang also denied that members of the Presidential Security Group were assigned to delas Alas, who had just filed, at the time, a case against Salang for violating Republic Act 9262.
When asked recently as to the progress of her legal tiff with her former partner, delas Alas only said, "In fairness, okay na siya."
