WATCH: 'Voice' faves Mitoy, Radha battle in semis
MANILA -- Two of the most popular contenders on "The Voice of the Philippines" shared the same stage for the semi-finals round of the reality talent search held Saturday at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Pasay City.
Both with an established background in the music industry -- Mitoy Yonting as the lead vocalist of The Draybers, and Radha Tinsay as one-third of Kulay -- Team Lea's bets performed the Phil Collins hit "Against All Odds" for their duet.
Noting the performance showed their years as professional singers, coach Allan "apl.de.ap" Pineda said, "Nakikita ko na talagang pantay na pantay, you guys are both fighting for it. Walang nagpapatalo sa inyong dalawa."
A visibly torn Lea Salonga, the pair's coach, praised both her artists for not "[muscling] your way through the song."
"Kasi 'yung kantang 'to, powerful na siya eh, hindi na kailangan i-pwersa para ipaabot sa audience kung gaano ka-powerful siya, so mraming salamat sa inyo na ginawa niyo 'yun," she said.
Along with Tinsay and Yonting, the six other remaining artists -- Team Bamboo's Myk Perez and Paolo Onesa, Team Sarah's Morissette Amon and Klarisse de Guzman, and Team Apl's Janice Javier and Thor Dulay -- also performed a duet with their respective team mates on Saturday.
The duets will be followed by a solo number from each contender on Sunday's live episode.
Both performances will be used as basis for the coaches' scores for their respective artists, which will be given on Sunday. Public voting, via text and online during commercial breaks, will resume with the same scheme on the second semi-finals episode.
Combined with equal weight, the coaches' scores and the results of the public voting will determine the Top 4 artists to compete in the grand finals on September 28 and 29.
