Vice Ganda channels Lee Min Ho in new film
MANILA, Philippines – For his new role as a straight-acting gay man, comedian-actor Vice Ganda channeled Korean superstar Lee Min Ho.
"Pinilit kong maging gwapo sa pelikulang ito, kasi nu’ng mga pagkakataong sinu-shoot namin 'to ay idol na idol ko si Lee Min Ho," Vice Ganda told Star Cinema's Take One, referring to his role in the upcoming comedy flick "This Guy's In Love With U, Mare."
Best known for his role as Gu Jun-pyo in the hit Korean series "Boys Over Flowers," Lee Min Ho has earned popularity in the Philippines with subsequent TV appearances on local television, most recently in the ABS-CBN-aired action series "City Hunter."
In the Wenn Deramas-directed film, Vice Ganda plays Lester, a gay man who feigns romantic interest in Gemma (Toni Gonzaga), to take revenge on her for "stealing" his boyfriend Mike (Luis Manzano).
"Ito 'yung pinakamahirap, sobrang challenging talaga. Ang hirap ng hugot kasi ang role ko bakla," Vice Ganda said in jest. "Si Lester ay nuknukan sa laki ng puso pagdating sa pagmamahal sa kanyang nobyo na si Mike."
Produced by Star Cinema and Viva Entertainment, "This Guy" is the follow-up big-screen outing of Deramas to the all-time highest-grossing local film "The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin," which also starred Vice Ganda.
Also starring Gladys Reyes, Edgar Mortiz, Tessie Tomas, Buboy Garovillo and Carla Martinez, "This Guy's In Love With You Mare" will hit theaters nationwide on October 10.
