(UPDATE) Mar-Korina wedding a go; reception cancelled
MANILA - The wedding of Liberal Party vice-presidential bet Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II and broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez will proceed as scheduled on October 27 at the Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City.
The reception at the Araneta Coliseum, however, has been cancelled, the bride-to-be announced Tuesday.
“Instead of spending for the reception at Araneta Coliseum as planned, Mar and I agreed to donate the amount set aside for it to various charity organizations taking care of evacuees and victims of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng,” Sanchez said in a press statement.
These charity groups are Caritas Manila, the Philippine National Red Cross, Sagip Kapamilya of ABS-CBN and Kapuso Foundation of GMA-7, among others.
After the Sto. Domingo rites, she said a private and simple wedding reception will take place at her soon-to-be-husband’s home.
"Para lang sa pamilya kasi mayroon pa akong pamilya na uuwi. And for the entourage siguro, merienda na lang sa bahay. Kaysa naman sa hotel pa, mas matipid kung sa bahay na lang," she told abs-cbnNEWS.com.
Wedding invitations have already been sent out, according to Sanchez. (Read Sanchez and Roxas' engagement announcement on "Wowowee")
“We are hoping that our guests will understand why we are doing this. It really does not feel right to be celebrating - no matter how important this date is for Mar and I - at a time of calamity and difficulty for a large number of our kababayans.” she said.
Sanchez, meantime, played down a wedding superstition that warns engaged couples against making too many changes in their wedding plans. The superstition considers it a bad omen.
The “Rated K” host maintained that it is more inappropriate if she and her fiancé push through with the reception at the Araneta Coliseum in the midst of massive devastation wrought by the two tropical storms.

Political and show business personalities as well as representatives from various groups that are close to the couple have been invited to attend the wedding. With a report from Reyma Buan-Deveza, abs-cbnNEWS.com

Sensible and Touching
I am delighted to hear this development. The couple has the sensitivity and the initiative to undertake this not-so-easy decision. Indeed, this is only once in a lifetime, and not to have a wedding reception on one of the most special days of your life is really, really selfless and noble.
Mar and Korina will always have my admiration, respect and love.
Best wishes!

Nice Move
I was impressed by the couple decision on the reception. it is true na hindi natin maiaalis na mag-isp na ito ay may kulaw politika. Tulad ng nasabi ni psylum.
On the other hand maging ito man ay kulay pula, dilaw or asul ang mahalaga ay may initiative sila for the goodness of others. of course they will have the simple reception, as mentioned by Korina.
May I suggest ma'am K and Sir Mar na in cash na lang ang request niyo sa mga gift. para sa ganun ay pandagdag pa sa i lolove gift nyo sa typhoon victims. Dagdag clap pa yun!
2 Hinlalaki taas para po sa inyo. Nice Move.

Help & Celebrate
Psylom, dis agree ako sa first paragraph mo. Palagay ko sincere sila dahil they can sacrifice their once in a lifetime wedding reception.
But at the same time agree ako sa second paragraph mo. Enjoy Mar and Korina, u don't need to sacrifice this long time planned wedding, u can help in other way.
Best Wishes Mar & Korina
saludo ako sa inyo Mar & Korina sana mas marami pa kayong matutulongan n kababayan natin,
Politiko si Mar. What do you expect?
Ano ba kayo. Napaka obvious.
At the same time, mas maganda kung itutuloy nila ang reception ng kasal nila. This is their moment and they like everybody else deserve a grand reception after their wedding.

hooooray!!!!
that is the best gift that you can give to the people who have been victimized by the typhoons, hooray to both of you. For me hindi lang kayo sensitive sa plight ng mga pilipinong nagdurusa at this time but both of you are en epitome of kindness and humbleness... i salute both of you and i pray that your marriage will be blessed with so much joy and happiness as much as you had given to our poor people. i only have admiration and respect for people like you who feels more fulfilled in helping our fellow filipinos in this time of great devastation than throwing millions for a lavish reception when you know the hard times that we are going thru right now. kudos to both of you goodluck and god bless you... by the way, your wedding day is my birthday and i know that god will be with you im sure that your wedding day will be a very beautiful day coz god loves people like you. cheers

You made a right decision. That's a two thumbs up for me.
