Gary V busy with duties as UNICEF ambassador
Pop star Gary Valenciano is having a short break from showbusiness by fulfilling his responsibilities as ambassador for the United Nations Children's Fund or UNICEF.
With abs-cbnNEWS.com, Valenciano and UNICEF country director Vanessa Tobin will do their first field trip together at Sitio Avocado, barangay Talalak, Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental, Friday, October 24.
"Gary Valenciano has been an ambassador for UNICEF for 10 years so my expectations are that we can very much continue to work very closely with Gary as our ambassador. We can look together at the issues around basic education within the country and obviously this is an area that's quite unsettled in the past. The work that we do around education and conflict is of paramount important to us, so we have the opportunity to examine that together, look at the issues and work with this particular area at sitio Avocado that has problems in the past,” said Tobin.
Tobin also said that working with Valenciano is good as they will be able to focus on the issue of children, basic education and protecting children in conflict areas.
Part of Gary V's itinerary for his work with UNICEF includes witnessing the groundbreaking ceremony for a pre-school classroom, interaction with elementary and high school students of Avocado Elementary School and performing for the people of barangay Talalak.
UNICEF was created by the United Nations to promote the health and well-being of children.
