MANILA - Actor Matt Evans finally broke his silence on the charge that he allegedly hurt his live-in partner, Johnelline Hickins, and her brother, Juan Alberto Carlotta.

Actor Matt Evans

"Sa akin ay maayos na sana. Huwag na sana palakihin," Evans told abs-cbnNEWs.com and other reporters on Tuesday afternoon.

Evans was arrested last Saturday and jailed after Carlotta filed a complaint for slight physical injury and Hickins accused him of violation of the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act.

Evans said he was hurt by the false claim of Hickins, the mother of his child.

Saka yung inis. Nagalit din ako. Saka siyempre nasaktan din talaga," he said.

Atty. Joji Alonzo, legal counsel of Evans, said the actor didn't hurt Hickins.

"Unang una, sa first statement pa lang na dumating si Matt na lasing is so untrue. In fact, the brother of the girl was not even around when he arrived together with some friends kasi they'd like to unwind, drink a little beer. At that time, umakyat pa siya sa baby at nagluto pa siya for Johnelline ng pagkain. So how could someone who's drunk go through that motion of taking care of things of the family. Yung claim na tinulak itong si Johnelline is also not true. The claim of Johnelline that she was pushed down the stairs is not true kasi bumaba na si Matt. He was already somewhere in the middle of the stairs, so paano mo maitutulak the opposite direction," Alonzo said.

'Brother was holding the knfe'

The lawyer also said Evans never held a knife, contrary to reports.

"There's only one knife, when the barangay people arrived at the scene, siya (Carlotta) ang may hawak ng kutsilyo, the brother (Carlotta), klaruhin lang natin," Alonzo said.

Kung may problema, as much as possible, gusto ko inaayos kaagad, hindi po pinakukumplika," he said.

Hickins Family

The actor said Hickins visited three times while he was in jail and he asked her three times to withdraw the complaint.

"Bumibisita siya , nag-uusap kami. Medyo weird nga kasi siya yung complainant. Three times kaming nag-usap, three times din akong nakiusap.

According to Evans, his relationship with Hickins has not been perfect, and weeks before this incident, he and Hickins encountered a rough patch.

"There were times na may hindi pagkakaintindihan pero naayos din yon. Ito yung huling away na nangyari tapos umabot pa sa ganoon," he said.

'Small misunderstanding'

According to Evans, the rift started from a very small misunderstanding which involves his friends.

Alonzo said Evans is the real victim and they will prove it.

"We're gonna fight this all the way to prove that he has not done anything wrong. If at all, our position is he is the victim here. Kung alam niyo lang ang lahat lahat ng nangyayari which we cannot say right now," Alonzo said.

Asked if he is open to a settlement, Evans replied: "Para sa akin, kung gusto talaga nilang maayos ito ay willing naman ako.

The actor said that after this incident, he believes that he and Hickins can never be together again, even if they had already talked about getting married.

Birthday turns into nightmare

Evans said Hickins told him about her plan to surprise him on his birthday, but things went overboard.

"Para sa akin kasi, hindi mo kailangang awayin yung isang tao para lang sabihin na may surprise ka or just to make sure or to see kung paano yung transition ng reaction niya from angry to surprise, hindi ba? Parang napaka-mali yun 'yung papasamain mo yung loob ng tao saka mo isu-surprise, aawayin mo muna yun pala may surprise ka. Parang pinaglalaruan mo yung emosyon ng tao," he said.

Yun nga yung mga sinasabi niya sa akin right after noong nangyari so I don't know kung totoo o anuman yung pinapakita niyang text sa akin. So hindi ko alam talaga kung ano yung plano," he added.

Juan Alberto "Yanni" Carlotta

According to the initial report, Hickins and her brother were planning a surprise birthday party for Evans when the actor and Hickins had a heated argument.

Hickins fell down the stairs while she and Evans were arguing, prompting the girl's brother to intervene.

Proud father

Evans said he's now feeling sad because of his baby. He added that not everybody knows that he is a proud father to his baby.

Wala akong idea o alam kung nasaan yung (bata)," he said.

Makikita niyo yung Facebook account ko, yung Instagram account ko, lahat all out ako.

Lessons learned

With all the things he's been through, Evans said the best thing he learned is how to be strong.

"Lesson for me, siguro huwag gumawa ng mali kapag weekend. Siguro dapat mga weekdays. Lesson for me is kung hindi kaya, kung marami kang pinagdadaanan, huwag kang bibitaw.

Evans is currently working on his upcoming series "Paraiso" with Jessy Mendiola and Matteo Guidicelli.
