(UPDATE) Mar, Korina to exchange vows in lavish wedding

MANILA – High-profile couple Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II and broadcaster Korina Sanchez are all set to exchange vows in a lavish wedding ceremony at Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City Tuesday afternoon.
In their separate interviews on radio dzMM, both Sanchez and Roxas could not contain their excitement.
"Hindi na yata mapipigilan ito," Sanchez said.
"Parang bungee jumping. Para siyang isang malalim na malalim na talon tapos hindi mo talaga matitiyak kung ano ang kala-landingan mo. Pero dahil mahigpit ang pagkakatali sa iyong binti ng lubid ng pagmamahal, alam mong ligtas ka na la-landing…. it's really a very exciting adventure," Sanchez added.
The senator, for his part, said he felt both tense and excited after waking up on Tuesday, knowing that he would be a married man at the end of the day.
"Ang unang agenda sa abot kaya ng panahon at tuhod ko ay magkaroon ng mga anak...Ang sarap isipin na sana may mga chikiting kami at nakaupo kami sa sofa. Nai-imagine ko ‘yong Sunday lunch na magkasama kami at mga anak namin at mga apo sana. Komportableng-komportable ‘yong imahe sa puso ko at sa kaisipan ko. Kaya dumating na 'This is it!'" he said.
Like Roxas, Sanchez said she plans to visit the graves of her parents. The broadcaster said she wants to be in her wedding gown when she goes to the cemetery.
"Alam mo [ang parents ko], hindi mo mapaghihiwalay ang dalawang yon. Kahit sa kamatayan nagsabay na din sila. Gusto ko sanang maging ganoon din ang buhay ko. Kahit hindi perpekto ang pagsasama… pero pinanindigan talaga nila ang isa't isa. Hindi sila talaga nag-iwanan," she said.
The “Rated K” host said the biggest challenge after their wedding is adjusting to the political life of Roxas, who is the running mate of Liberal Party standard-bearer, Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
"Talagang desidido ako na lalayuan ko talaga yang buhay pulitika. Pero, ano ang magagawa natin? Umibig ako sa isang taong pulitika ang buhay," she said.
Sanchez said she and the lawmaker will have two honeymoons. They will go first in Japan where they will stay for eight days. The second and longer honeymoon will happen in December.
The couple got engaged early this year after more than 5 years of being together. Roxas proposed on Valentine's Day in Cebu province. (Watch Mar-Korina's love story)
Filipiniana-themed wedding
The Filipiniana-themed wedding will begin at 3 p.m., and almost 2,000 guests are expected to attend the event.
It is expected to be packed with political and show business personalities as well as representatives from various political organizations and non-government organizations.
To stand as principal sponsors are Chief Justice Reynato Puno, former Senate President Jovito Salonga, Eugenio Lopez III, Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, Jorge Araneta, Ms. Rosa Rosal, Helen Costales, Ruby Roxas, Cecilia Lazaro, and Maria Fores.
Roxas’ 16-year old son, Paolo Zaldarriaga, will be the senator’s best man, while Dang Cecilio-Palance will be the matron of honor.
The ring bearer will be actress Kris Aquino’s son, James Yap Jr., while Miguel Sanchez and Matthew Garcia will be the coin and Bible bearers, respectively.
The wedding entourage is billeted in a Makati hotel.
Mike Miñana, head of the production and security of the wedding, said the bride will arrive at 2:30 p.m. and she will be brought to a holding room.
“After more than 20 minutes in the holding room, the processional of the entourage will begin. And they will walk the whole length of the red carpet… [it’s a] 50-feet-long walk on the red carpet,” he said.
Wearing a Pepito Albert creation, the bride will walk down the aisle while the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra plays in the background, he added.
Four big screens have been set up within the compound of the church for their supporters.
Johnson Manabat of radio dzMM said he spotted a white pedicab (manually-run version of the tricycle) bearing the couple’s photo inside the compound. Roxas has been associated with the pedicab after he came out with his “padyak-padyak” infomercial.
There will be no grand reception after the ceremony. The senator from Capiz and the veteran broadcast anchor decided to donate the money to 6 charity organizations providing assistance to victims of typhoons “Ondoy” and “Pepeng.”
After the ceremony, the couple is set to meet with their guests in the courtyard where food and refreshments will be served.
Reports said more than 200 police have been deployed in the area to maintain peace and order. -With reports from Johnson Manabat, radio dzMM and Sol Aragones, ABS-CBN News
