MANILA – Philippine Azkals striker Phil Younghusband took to social media on Sunday to thank his followers for their support amid his separation with actress Angel Locsin.
The 26-year-old football star, who has kept his photo with Locsin on his Twitter account, also said he has remained friends with the actress.

“Although we have parted as a couple, we are thankful that we remain friends and we only wish the best for each other,” Younghusband said.
“Neither of us regret the time we spent together, we enjoyed each other’s company and really made the most of it. There are no faults in this, it was not an issue of who did or didn’t do something, it was a mutual decision and although it was difficult we just both felt that this would be the best thing to do given our circumstances,” he said.
In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News last Friday, the athlete opted not to comment on the breakup, but said he is grateful to the fans who followed their relationship since 2011.
Younghusband and Locsin became a couple on May 27, 2012, following a year-long romance that started with a tweet from the Azkals striker asking her out for Valentine's Day.
Asked how he is coping with the breakup, Younghusband said, "I can't comment on that, not right now. I just can't... I can't comment on that right now."
On Sunday, Younghusband apologized for not speaking up about the separation earlier.
“It is a sensitive matter and I personally apologize for taking time to let everyone know about the situation. I am grateful for your support and we hope you continue to support both of us in our each of our endeavors,” he said, adding that their relationship was “a happy one.
“As much as we tried to make it work we would just like to request for all of you to support us in our choice and that we respect one another in keeping our personal lives to ourselves,” he said.
