MANILA -- After her son’s “sensational” performance in ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Show, “Mommy” Dionisia Pacquiao showed the press where Manny’s singing talent came from.

Dionisia sang the song “Paper Roses” during a press conference promoting her movie “Tanging Pamilya”, which she co-starred with former president Joseph Estrada and comedienne Ai-Ai de las Alas.

“Paper Roses” was first sung by Anita Bryant in the 60s then revived by Marie Osmond in the 70s. Several local singers made their own rendition of the song, the latest being done by Jolina Magdangal.

Mommy Dionisia said she is planning to follow in the footsteps of his son, the reigning pound-for-pound champion, who has not only become a movie actor but also a recording artist.

"Sa kanta, ang idol ko ay si Imelda Papin," she revealed.

Acts and talks showbiz

Mommy Dionisia seemed to be at home with show business as she gamely answered almost every question posed by the movie press during the press conference.

She denied the issue that she has overshadowed co-star Delas Alas, stressing that the comedienne has long been popular compared to her.

She also acknowledged her own popularity, adding that even her son Manny “admitted” his mommy has become a household name.

“Sabi ni Manny, ‘Ay naku sikat pa si mommy sa akin’. Walang Manny kung walang mommy," she joked.

She also easily handled the question about how much fee she charges for her talent. Rumor has it that her talent fee is P5 million.

“Hindi naman,” said Mommy Dionisia with a laugh. “Secret [‘yan]. No comment.”

Mommy Dionisia admitted it is not easy being popular. Manny has increased the number of her bodyguards to secure her safety amid death threats.

When the press joked that her protectors were meant to keep her suitors away, Mommy Dionisia replied: “Ay humanda sila sa akin.” With a report from Marie Lozano, ABS-CBN News
