Comelec stays out of Aga registration case
MANILA, Philippines – Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes clarified that the poll body is not involved in the matter of the inclusion of actror Aga Muhlach and wife Charlene Gonzales in the voters’ list of Camarines Sur.
Brillantes said the right to vote is a judicial issue best left to the courts.
What the poll body is handling is the pending disqualification case against Muhlach over his alleged Spanish citizenship.
Brillantes pointed out that the Comelec has nothing to do with Election Registration Boards (ERB) at the local level. Any relief from any ERB resolution must come from the courts.
Brillantes said it is impractical for the poll body to delve into all ERB proceedings since there are too many of them to be handled by the few personnel of the Comelec.
Menawhile, Brillantes said Gonzales may substitute for Muchlach if ever the actor is disqualified over his citizenship.
