Kapamilya Gold's 'Paraiso' debuts strongly vs rival

MANILA, Philippines -- The guesting of Thai superstar Mario Maurer on "Gandang Gabi Vice" drew in a strong nationwide viewership Sunday night, while ABS-CBN's newest noontime offering "Paraiso" debuted strongly the next day on Kapamilya Gold.

Filipino fans of Maurer were glued to their TV screens late Sunday night, as the Thai heartthrob showed his goofy side on Vice Ganda's comedy talk show.

Maurer was accompanied by Erich Gonzales, Cacai Bautista and Joross Gamboa, his fellow cast members in the romantic-comedy film "Suddenly It's Magic," which is still showing in cinemas across the country.

According to the TV ratings data of multinational market research group Kantar Media, the November 4 episode of "Gandang Gabi Vice" garnered 18.4% in national TV rating, while its competing show aired on GMA-7, "Imbestigador," only earned a nationwide rating of 14.0%.

Even online, Maurer's guesting drew raves from viewers of the talk show. On micro-blogging site Twitter, the hashtag "#MarioMaureronGGV" became the No. 1 trending topic worldwide during the airing of the program.

Meanwhile, the latest in the "Precious Hearts Romances" series, "Paraiso," aired its pilot last Monday, November 5, also marking a strong performance in national TV ratings compared to its rival show on GMA-7.

Also according to Kantar Media, the soap that sees Matteo Guidicelli and Jessy Mendiola shipwrecked on an island reportedly drew in a nationwide rating of 14.3%. In comparison, its rival show "Magdalena" only garnered 12%.

Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes, more than AGB Nielsen’s 1,980 homes that are only based in urban areas. Kantar Media’s panel represents 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population, while AGB Nielsen reportedly represents only 57% of the Philippine TV viewing population.
