MANILA - Dionisia Pacquiao, the 60-year-old mother of famed boxer Manny Pacquiao, said she loves being famous, but admitted that it does come with downsides.

Mrs. Pacquiao - who goes by the moniker "Mommy Dionisia"- opened up on Sunday's "The Buzz" about her family's newfound fame and wealth after her son Manny hit it big in the international boxing scene in 2001.

The boxer earned at least $12 million (P576 million) in his latest match against British boxer Ricky Hatton. Manny is set to fight Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto on November 15.

Mrs. Pacquiao, a former "kakanin" vendor, insisted that fame has not changed her as a person and that the Pacquiao family are simply enjoying the largesse.

She said her son gives her "just enough" in terms of living expenses, and that he had bought a house for her in their hometown General Santos City.

She also has to be accompanied by escorts when she leaves the house, so as not to be swarmed by fans.

Intrigues

As for intrigues, like alleged bad blood between her and Manny's wife Jinkee, Mrs. Pacquiao said it was part of the package.

"Sa tao, marami kaming intriga talaga sa sobrang sikat. Ngayon lang na nagsikat kami. [For people, there are many intrigues because [we] are very famous. [Intrigues came] when we got famous]," she said.

"Ok man lang. Hindi naman totoo 'yong tsismis. Handa kong tanggapin. Hindi man totoo. No problem sa akin. Basta sikat, andaming mainggit. [It's okay. The gossip are not true. I can accept them. They are not true. I don't have a problem with that. When someone is famous, many people are jealous]," Mrs. Pacquiao added.

Mommy Dionisia also dismissed numerous accounts of Manny Pacquiao's alleged womanizing, saying it is natural for women to admire her son.

"Hayaan mo lang ang mga intriga kasi [nandiyan na 'yan] lalo na noong unang sumisikat ang anak ko. Kasi andyan ang kagalingan niya. Ang daming humahanga sa kanya, lalo na sa mga babae. Ang daming mag-intrigang salita, hindi ginagawa sa anak ko 'yan. Hindi totoo ang mga balita," she said.

[Leave those intrigues alone, because they started ever since my son got famous. Because he is a good boxer and many people admire him, especially women. There are many intrigues, but my son doesn't do that (womanize). The reports are not true.]

New love?

Asked about her own love life, Mrs. Pacquiao said she has many suitors but does not want to entertain them just yet.

Instead of going on dates with her suitors, she said she focuses on her family, grandchildren, and ballroom dancing.

"Andyan ang pagmamahal ko sa dancing. Ayoko na, hindi ko na maulit 'yong masaktan pa ang puso ko. [There is my love for dancing. I don't want to [date] anymore, I can't have my heart broken again]," she told "The Buzz."
