What keeps Bugoy Drilon busy?
MANILA - After winning 2nd place in Season 2 of the talent reality show Pinoy Dream Academy (PDA), Jay "Bugoy" Drilon is now riding a high wave in the music industry.
His debut album "Bugoy: Paano Na Kaya" received a gold record award (for 500,000 total album sales) and is now gearing for platinum status, meaning that the album will have to sell 1 million copies.
"Siyempre po happy ako kasi hindi ko po akalain na ganoon ang suporta sa akin ng mga tao. Nagpapasalamat po ako sa kanila kasi kung hindi dahil [sa] kanila, wala din po ako ngayon," Drilon said in an exclusive interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com.
[Of course, I am happy because I never expected this kind of support from people. I would like to thank them because without them, I won't be where I am today.]
Songs
Included in Drilon's first CD are the songs "Paano Na Kaya" and "Simulan Mo Ang Isang Pangarap" composed by Ryan Cayabyab.
The album also features "Kung Pwede Lang Sana," "Muli," and "Lahat ng Yan" by Vehnee Saturno; and "Bakit Ba?" by Jonathan Manalo.
"Paano Na Kaya" and "Muli" became instant hits, but Drilon's personal favorite is "Lahat Ng 'Yan."
The singer is also set to do concerts here and abroad, including the "Star Magic's The World Concert Tour" on November 13 at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
Proceeds from the show will be given to victims of recent storms.
'No time for love'
With his career picking up, Drilon said he is still single and has "no time to fall in love."
He said he wants to focus on his work so that he can provide for his impoverished family.
Drilon, who was dubbed "The Farmer's Son from Camarines Sur" during his stint on the PDA reality show, was once linked to his fellow PDA scholar Liezel Garcia.
"Sa ngayon, marami akong inaasikaso - ang family ko. Focus muna ako sa trabaho. Darating ang love life sa tamang panahon," Drilon said.
He added that he wants to buy a new house in Manila, once more projects start coming in.
gold record/ platinum record award
I think that a gold record award in Philippines is for sales of at least 20,000 units
