ABS-CBN wins big in PMPC Star Awards for TV

MANILA, Philippines - ABS-CBN won the most number of awards, including best television station, at the 24th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Television held last Saturday, November 13.

The star-studded event, hosted by Angel Aquino, Miriam Quiambao and Ruffa Gutierrez, was held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila.

Gerald Anderson won his first acting award in the category Best Single Performance by an Actor, while Magkaribal star Gretchen Barretto bagged the Best Single Performance by an Actress for the second consecutive year.

Both Anderson and Barretto won for their performances in Maalaala Mo Kaya for the episodes Lubid and Larawan, respectively.

The Kapamilya network also bagged major prizes including Best Drama Actress (Maricel Soriano for Florinda), Best Primetime TV Series (Dahil May Isang Ikaw), Best Drama Anthology (Maalaala Mo Kaya), Best Musical/Variety Show (ASAP XV), Best Talent Search Program (Showtime),and Best Showbiz-Oriented Program (The Buzz).

TV Patrol World (now TV Patrol) was named Best News Program, while its anchors Julius Babao (tied with Daniel Razon of UNTV) and Karen Davila were named Best Male and Female Newscasters, respectively.

Umagang Kay Ganda bagged the Best Morning Show award (tied with UNTV's Good Morning Kuya), while its host won the Best Morning Show Hosts award.

The Best Public Affairs Program and Host awards went to The Bottomline and its host, Boy Abunda. Matanglawin and Kuya Kim Atienza, meanwhile, got the Best Educational Program and Host awards, respectively.

Toni Gonzaga won 2 awards in this year's PMPC Star Awards for Television, which are Best Female Host (for ASAP XV) and Best Reality Program Host (for PBB Double Up).

Other prizes won by ABS-CBN include Best Horror/Fantasy Program (Pepeng Agimat), Best Talent Search Program Hosts (Luis Manzano and Billy Crawford for Pilipinas Got Talent), Best New Male TV Personality (Johan Santos for Precious Hearts Romances: Love Me Again), Best Variety/Game Show (Wowowee), Best Gag Show (Banana Split), Best Male Showbiz-Oriented Show Host (Boy Abunda for The Buzz) and Best Female Showbiz-Oriented Show Host (Bianca Gonzalez for ELive)
