(UPDATE 2) Edu confirms break-up with Pinky
MANILA - TV host and vice-presidential candidate Edu Manzano on Thursday confirmed that he and his girlfriend of five years, news anchor Pinky Webb, have already called it quits.
Manzano did not deny the reported split, but he refused to discuss the circumstances behind the break-up.
“The personal aspect, maybe we should just keep it to ourselves. I don’t think it will have basis or impact on the campaign. There are just some things that will not always go the way we planned it,” Manzano said in a chance interview after formally accepting his vice-presidential nomination under the administration's Lakas-Kampi-CMD ticket.
In his exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News, meanwhile, Manzano disclosed that it was a mutual decision.
“We have opted to go our separate ways and we'll hope for the best,” he said.
He admitted that not telling Webb about his decision to accept the offer of the administration was one of the reasons for the separation. Besides, Manzano added, his decision to enter politics might also affect Webb’s career as a broadcaster.
Webb did not attend the Lakas-Kami-CMD’s convention at the Philippine International Convention Center Thursday. Manzano’s celebrity son, Luis Manzano, also failed to appear Thursday.
The elder Manzano said Luis is in the United States. But some of Manzano’s relatives were at the PICC to show their support.
Both Webb and Luis were caught off guard by Manzano’s decision to run for the country's second-highest public post.
The Philippine Star’s Ricky Lo wrote in his “Funfare” column that Manzano and Webb separated almost a week after the TV host declared his intention to run for vice-president.
In his article, the veteran entertainment journalist said the break-up had nothing to do with Manzano's decision to run as vice-president instead of senator. Lo said his source also shot down speculations that a third party on either side was the cause of the break-up.
In a previous interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, the former chairman of the Optical Media Board admitted that he and Webb were already planning to tie the knot. -With reports from RG Cruz and Karen Davila, ABS-CBN News

Edu admitted sacrificing his relationship for politics
...and will end up single and jobless.
You can respect Edu's indifference to gloria's mismanagement and crimes- that is his political view. But to run as VP of someone who has a 2% survey rating under an administration led by a president with a consistent big negative approval rating is STUPIDITY.
It was not too late for Pinky to realize he was with a stupid man all these years.

I knew this is going to happen as I've mentioned in my previous comment. EDU is something else dahil he sacrificed his relationship with Pinky na matagal na niyang GF over his personal and selfish ambition. Hindi ko masisi si Pinky dahil sino ba naman ang makikisama ng habang buhay sa taong selfish at bobo. Kung puwede nga lang din siya i divorce ni Luis ay siguro ginawa na ni Luis din.
Principle could have been involved
Sa tuwing may mga incompetence at corruption sa lahat ng level ng gobyerno na pinag-uusapan sa programang Umagang Kay Ganda (lalo na kung bumabanat si Ka Tunying), ipinapakita ni Pinky ang kanyang kaalaman at minsa'y pagkadismaya sa mga kabulukan ng administrasyon ni gloria macapal arroyo, samantalang si Edu ay tahimik lang.
Hula ko prinsipyo ang dahilan ng hiwalayan; at Si Pinky, hindi si Edu ang nagpakita ng mas matatag na paninindigan.
