Stars give Manny-Krista affair mixed reviews
MANILA - Filipinos - including local stars - gave varying opinions on the alleged affair between Manny Pacquiao and Krista Ranillo.
In an interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, the "Ladies of 90's" Geneva Cruz, Rachel Alejandro and Jessa Zaragoza shared their thoughts on the controversy. Gossip on the alleged Pacquiao-Ranillo affair has been swirling for over a week.
Alejandro said she doesn't know the real score between Manny and Krista, but said that Jinkee should "take it lightly."
"For me, sometimes baka nami-misinterpret lang. Sometimes, girls are just trying to be friends. I can just imagine...Manny does inspire a lot of fans. It's so easy na maging (close) kay Manny. I mean, not just with girls, but men alike. I know men who are obsessed with Pacquiao," she said.
Alejandro said Pacquiao's situation is similar to her father's (Hajji Alejandro) playboy status in the 1970s.
"If Manny is your husband, it's similar with the way that my dad in the 70's was the 'Kilabot ng Kolehiyala' (a man who gives college girls goosebumps)," she said.
"Kalma ka lang. Kasi 'yong mga babae pumupunta sa bahay ng dad ko, everybody wanted to be with him. It's the pros and cons of being with someone like that, so carry na lang," Alejandro added.
Wives join 'Team Jinkee'
Married celebrities like Jessa Zaragoza, however, counted herself as a supporter of "Team Jinkee" - a name coined by supporters of Manny's wife, Jinkee Pacquiao, on social networking site Twitter.
Zaragoza said she was affected by a video of Jinkee crying at a thanksgiving mass held for Manny in Las Vegas.
"I feel for her. Ako ay isang asawa din, so I feel for Jinkee. Kung anuman ang problema nila, sila lang ang makakaalam noon at sila lang ang pwedeng makapag-confirm. Sa akin, kapag may ganoon - kahit hindi kami close ni Jinkee - sa mga may asawa talaga, we really want to pray for them. Kung anuman ang pinagdadaanan nilang trials," she said.
Zaragoza advised Jinkee to simply pray to God for guidance.
"Walang ibang pinakamatibay na tatakbuhan. Siyempre si Lord. Family mo can fail you, but ang Panginoon laging nandiyan 'yon. So 'yon ang pinaka-best na dapat gawin lalo ng isang wife," she said.
Cruz, meanwhile, said she is also on Jinkee's side. Cruz, who is married to former MTV host KC Montero, was once romantically linked to Pacquiao as well.
"I'm a wife that's why ayaw ko talagang mag-comment about this. But one thing lang na hindi ko nagustuhan when they tried to link my name with Pacman. Ang worry ko talaga that time ay baka makarating kay Jinkee at maniwala siya," she said.
The singer added that when she was linked to the boxer, she proactively sought to clear the issue with Pacquiao's camp.
"Ang problema kasi sobrang star na siya. Makatabi mo lang siya parang lalagyan ng kulay. Ako ay ingat lang ako, dahil ako ay isang asawa at ayaw ko din ng ganoong pakiramdam kung mangyari sa akin 'yon hindi ba," Cruz said.
Cruz said the boxer should learn to differentiate between love and lust. "Love really is a big thing crazy. Sometimes hindi mo alam kung ano ang kaibahan ng lust at love. Titignan mo din kung ano ang kaibahan ng love at lust," she added.
The singer said she admires Jinkee's strength, and that the boxer's wife should stay strong for her children. The Pacquiao couple, who have been married for over a decade, have 4 children.
"As a woman lang, I know that Jinkee is very strong. And maging inspiration niya ang mga anak niya, kung ganoon nga ang problema," Cruz said.
What's the truth?
Rather than comment on the issue, some celebrities chose not to comment on the rumored affair between Manny and Krista.
TV host Boy Abunda was cautious when asked about his take on the controversy, saying he would rather hear the truth of the matter straight from the people involved.
The host added that the public should be careful when judging others, based on the things they see on TV or read in newspapers.
"Just like the public, I just want to know the truth... But based lang on the initial report, may basehan talaga ang kontrobersiya. There are photos, but are we supposed to judge people based on partial stories that we have?" he said.
"We have to give ourselves also, a chance to know kung ano nga ba ang totoo. Takot lang ako doon sa paghuhusga agad," Abunda said during the launch of his latest endorsement with Argentina corned beef.
He advised Jinkee to find out whether the rumors are true first. He said Jinkee has the right to defend her role as Manny's wife and as the mother of their children.
"There's every possible effort to know the truth and then take it from your husband. Kausapin mo hangga't kaya mo. For as long as there's love, I mean that's an old saying, [then] fight for it," Abunda said.
Known to ask celebrities tough questions in his gossip show "The Buzz", Abunda said he had numerous questions to ask Krista.
"What's the truth? I wanna ask her kung totoo ba itong aming nababasa. Because she's being crucified now. Do you think you deserve the crucification? Do you think you deserve all that name-calling that's happening now? And my follow up question will depend on whether she says 'yes or no,'" he said.
Pulse of the masses
Ordinary citizens both here and abroad also had their say on the rumored affair in online forums, social networking sites, and in blogs.
Online news site abs-cbnNEWS.com gathered some inputs from people who are closely following the controversy.
"Ako, sa tingin ko, mayroong (katotohanan ang isyu kasi) wala namang usok kung walang apoy. (I think there is truth to the issue because there is no smoke if there is no fire)," Noel Orsal, an entertainment photographer, said.
"Sa lahat ng bagay, it takes two to tango. Ang mga lalaki madaling mahulog ang loob nila, especially if the girl is too sweet to you. Wala ako sa position to say kung mayroon silang relasyon o wala, pero ang masasabi ko lang it takes two to tango," said Ginny Guanco, a marketing communications professional.
"Para sa akin, kung 'yong mga sobrang sikat, 'yong mga hunk ay nangangaliwa, how much more ang isang superstar na athlete?" said Harold Geronimo of Stratworks, a public relations firm.
"Pero I'm not judging Manny. For me the possibility is there. Alam mo naman na kapag may usok may bahid ng katotohanan. Pero let's give him the benefit of the doubt. At base sa reaction, especially 'yong kay Jinkee, nakikita ko sa reaction ni Manny na there's guilt on his part. Na nasaktan niya ang asawa niya," Geronimo said.
Daisy Flores, a Customer Relation Assistant, said Ranillo's silence on the issue is "suspicious."
"Naniniwala ako kasi kung talagang walang nangyayari dapat ay nagsalita na si Krista. Kung ako si Jinkee, malamang eh makapatay pa ako. Kay Krista naman, kung ayaw niyang ma-judge siya ng tao, siya na ang lumayo at umiwas dahil may asawang tao si Manny," Flores, a wife and mother, said.
Married women, especially, said that they will always support Jinkee since she is the legal wife.
Most of those interviewed by abs-cbnNEWS.com said they value fidelity in a marriage. --Report by Reyma Buan-Deveza, abs-cbnNEWS.com.
