'Imburnal' named best picture in Cinema One filmfest
Indie film “Imburnal” bagged the best picture award during the 2008 Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival Friday afternoon. The Ronnie Lazaro-starrer “Yanggaw”, however, grabbed the most number of awards.
Imburnal, a tale of two young boys who are initiated to manhood amid impoverished life in Davao, took home a cash prize of P200,000 for winning in the best picture category.
Yanggaw’s Richard Somes and Lazaro were named best director and best actor, respectively. Lazaro shared the best actor award with Mark Gil for “Alon.”
Alon’s Charee Pineda took home the best actress plum. Alon, a film about a May-December affair, also grabbed the best musical score award.
Yanggaw was the biggest winner in the film festival, bagging seven out of 14 awards.
Aside from best director and best actor awards, Yanggaw grabbed the best supporting actor prize (Joel Torre) and best supporting actress award (Tetchie Agbayani). It also won the best sound (Joey Santos) and best editing (Borgy Torre) plums.
Yanggaw, a story of an ailing young woman and how her family copes with her mysterious illness, also won the Audience Choice Award.
Imburnal director Sherad Anthony Sanchez won the best screenplay award. Sanchez, Joel Geolamen, Mark Limbaga, Jose Bagane Fiola and John Torres took home the best cinematography award.
Meanwhile, “Kolorete” bagged the best production design honor and the special jury award.
The other -- “Dose,” “MotorCycle” and “UPCAT” -- were cited for their innovativeness and uniqueness in presentation.
There were seven entries in this year’s film festival. The awarding ceremony was held at the Dolphy Theater in ABS-CBN Broadcast Center in Quezon City.
Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival is an annual project of the Cinema One Channel. Now on its fourth year, it has produced award-winning films that gained accolades from local awards group and international film festivals.
