Sarah G is military's new peace envoy
Pop Star Princess waives P10M talent fee
MANILA, Philippines -- In hopes of extending its reach to the youth, the Armed Forces have tapped Sarah Geronimo as its ambassador for peace and development efforts.
The Kapamilya singer-actress was announced Wednesday as the ambassador of the Armed Forces' Internal Peace and Security Plan Bayanihan.
"She is a perfect role model for the youth. She has remained humble despite her lofty status," Army spokesman Maj. Harold Cabunoc was quoted as saying by the Philippine Star.
"She is well-respected in the industry and has the great potential to lure people to be involved in solving community problems," Cabunoc added.
Coinciding with the announcement of Geronimo's involvement with the AFP at the Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, a music video for the security plan dubbed "Bayanihan: Para sa Kapayapaan" was also launched.
The ABS-CBN star, who sang the theme song, also appears in the music video (seen above).
The song's lyrics were written by Lt. Lady Chatterly Alvaro-Sumbeling, with musical arrangement by Dodoy Ongleo.
According to Lesley Cordero, undersecretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office, Geronimo waived her P10-million talent fee for her part in the project.
"She waived her talent fee and there were no questions asked. She said this will serve as the contribution of the entertainment industry in promoting peace," Cordero said.
