MANILA - Amid frenzied Christmas holiday atmosphere and showbiz folks fussing about last minute election advisories, actress Alma Moreno was rushed to a hospital Tuesday afternoon for recurrence of a disease diagnosed a few years ago.

After a series of tiring meetings with her political leaders and production crew, Moreno was brought to Makati Medical Center after she complained of stiff neck and for an immediate treatment of multiple sclerosis.

This time, according to her staff, she has to be confined so that the deadly illness is treated handily, if not at all completely.

“Executive check-up din po ‘yon. Pero no visitors allowed po sa ospital,” said the woman staff who asked not to be identified. “She’ll stay in the hospital for at least 4 to 5 days pero wala naman pong delikado.”

About 8 years ago, Moreno was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which, according to medical experts, is a disease characterized by patches of hardened tissue in the brain or the spinal cord because of loss of myelin.

It can lead to partial or complete paralysis and trembling of the muscle.

One cause of the disease, according to experts, is Moreno’s consistent exposure to vigorous body movements, like shaking her head especially when she was still dancing in her television shows.

Meanwhile, days before her confinement, Moreno, Venessa Laxamana ni real life, attended the birthday bash of one of her best friends and choreographers, Raffy Chan of the former Wea Dancers, at Kelchers Bar and Grill in Parañaque City.

During the program, sexy dancers EB Babes performed.

Moreno said: “Ganyan din ako no’n. Nami-miss ko ‘yon (dancing). Ang maipapayo ko lang sa mga dancers ngayon, mag-ingat sa kanilang katawan para hindi magka-multiple sclerosis.”

Moreno, wife of Marawi City Mayor Fajid Salic, took pride in being a Muslim as she promoted the Muslim culture.

On the Maguindanao massacre, Moreno and Salic condemned the act of brutality as they condoled with the families of the victims, including the Mangudadatus.

Moreno is seeking reelection as Parañaque councilor.
