They have brought us some of the most memorable and enduring songs of our time like “Now that I Have You” and “Muntik na Kitang Minahal.”

Now on their 23rd year in the music industry, Moy Ortiz, Annie Quintos, Cecile Bautista, Jay Marquez and Sweet Plantado, or otherwise known as The CompanY, have proven that they are still going strong and will continue to give us more hits.

The CompanY, the country’s premier vocal ensemble, on Saturday released its 18th studio album called “Group Hug.”

The album is a musical tribute to icons such as the Beatles, Queen, Abba and The Carpenters. It also includes an original song fittingly titled “Nandito Pa Rin Tayo.” It also features the music of the FILharmoniKA orchestra under the baton of musical director Gerard Salonga.

“This is our loving tribute to music groups who have stunning and lasting legacy in contemporary music. We don’t recreate the songs like the way they did because we can’t compete with the original,” Ortiz told "Mornings@ANC."

Bautista echoed:  “We tried to be experimental. We didn’t want to get stuck in just one genre and under the guidance of our musical director, Mr. Moy Ortiz… he has made it a point that the group always tries different things in this album. We do songs by Abba, it's an a cappella, and we have an experimental track, ‘All Apologies’ by Nirvana.”

Bautista also shared that singing along with an orchestra was a different “worldly experience” itself.

The CompanY has gone a long way from just being backup singers 23 years ago. Originally with 12 members, the group is now down to five.

With 36 music industry awards in more than 20 years, the group has performed with international artists such as Jim Brickman, Kenny Rankin and Michael Bublé.

“Group Hug” will be formally launched on Sunday at Shangri-La Mall at 6 p.m.   The CompanY will also perform on December 15 and 17 in Greenhills and SM Megamall, respectively.
