KC joins UN effort to help typhoon victims
MANILA, Philippines -- KC Concepcion is helping a United Nations (UN) program in relief efforts for the benefit of the thousands affected by the deadliest typhoon to hit the country this year.
The Kapamilya actress arrived Tuesday in Davao City, and visited New Bataan, Compostela Valley on Wednesday to interact with the survivors of typhoon "Pablo". She also assisted the World Food Programme (WFP) in distributing relief goods to the thousand displaced by the calamity.
Concepcion, 27, is WFP Philippines' National Ambassador Against Hunger.
On micro-blogging site Twitter, where the "X Factor" host has over 2 million followers, Concepcion chronicled her visit to the areas affected by typhoon "Pablo."
She also continues to air calls for donations, and informed her followers of the extent of damage in that part of Mindanao.
As of Thursday afternoon, the death toll from the typhoon, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), had climbed to 902. Most of the deaths were reported in the devastated provinces of Davao Oriental (404) and Compostela Valley (440).
The NDRRMC has also reported that at least 5,474,313 were affected by the typhoon. Of the affected residents, 79,885 remain inside evacuation centers.
According to the official website of WFP Philippines, it has so far delivered 200 tons of rice for 40,000 families in Compostela Valley, and 50 tons of rice for 10,000 families in Davao Oriental.
