David Pomeranz to perform for Operation Smile Philippines
One of the country's favorite international singers David Pomeranz will again prove his closeness to Filipinos as he does a fund-raising concert in February called "David Pomeranz: In Our Hands" for Operation Smile Philippines (OSP).
OSP is a medical services organization that provides reconstructive surgery and related health care to poor children and young adults.
In an interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Pomeranz said that it is an honor for him to perform for a worthy cause.
"We are gonna do several concerts on behalf of 'Operation Smile' and it's our honor to do so. Please come we will be in Davao, we will be in Cebu and we will be in Manila, the dates to follow," Pomeranz said.
Operation Smile is a worldwide children’s medical charity headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia. Medical volunteers repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other childhood facial deformities.
With an estimated number of 4,000 new cases of cleft deformities among live babies delivered per year, Operation Smile Philippines hopes to address the thousands of backlog cases by continuing its outreach missions in remote areas.
Pomeranz admitted that at first he did not know anything about the work of OSP.
"It was introduced to me by my managers here Mark and Cristine Manalang of the Ultimate Entertainment. They told me about the organization. I wasn't aware of it. They told me about what it did. I said 'that sounds wonderful' and I started to do some homework. I started to look on the internet... and find more about it and I was deeply moved," Pomeranz said.
He added, "This 'Operation Smile' is so interesting because you can actually demonstrably… it demonstrates -- 30 minutes later then you got a person who's in this condition (with cleft palate) and 30 minutes later they are in that condition (restored). Their lives are change for the better forever with very little time, effort."
Pomeranz said that he is really blessed to have his own way of helping Filipinos in need.
"To be able to help to any measure or degree is a privilege... not everyone is able to help on a big scale with media and such, and if I can lend my name and music to getting people aware of this thing it's my privilege,” the singer said.

Pomeranz is the recipient of various prestigious honors including awards from The Citizen's Commission on Human Rights, The Philippine National Red Cross and The Los Angeles Film Council.
He gained fame in the Philippines with his hits "Got To Believe in Magic," "King & Queen of Hearts," "On This Day" "Undying Admiration" and "Born For You."
