Maricar Reyes, Hayden Kho among Google, Yahoo!’s top celebrity searches

MANILA, Philippines – Maricar Reyes and Hayden Kho, who were involved in the sex video scandal, have ranked high on Google and Yahoo!’s list of top celebrity searches for the Philippines.

Early this month, the 2 leading search engines released its annual list of most popular search items for this year.

In Google’s Zeitgeist for the Philippines , a look at 2009 through the collective eyes of Filipinos browsing the web, Reyes and Kho were among the list of “fastest rising queries in the Philippines” alongside Korean Star Kim Bum, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson.

Surprisingly, “Wowowee” host Willie Revillame made it to the fastest rising politicians searched on Google News along with President Arroyo, Sen. Benigno Aquino III, Panfilo Lacson, and Joseph Estrada. Revillame was earlier rumored to be running in 201 elections, but he officially declared in his show that he was not seeking a public post.

Kho also topped Google’s list of personalities that gave a face to 2009. Francis Magalona, Carla Abellana and Bebe Gandanghari also made the list.

Google’s list of up-and-coming and most popular celebrity searches included Abellana, Gandanghari, Sandara Park, Coco Martin, Aling Dionisia, mother of Manny Pacquiao, Katrina Halili, Reyes, Angel Locsin and Denise Laurel.

Meanwhile, the fastest rising OPM songs searched by Filipinos were Di Na Mababawi, True Love Ko, Note to God, Kaleidoscope World, Ikaw Na Nga, Walang Hanggan, Balisa, Bintana, Paglisan, and Nagmahal Ako.

Yahoo!’s top searches list

For Yahoo!’s top searches list, Magalona, who died of leukemia, placed 3rd on the list of most search terms for Philippines in 2009.

The list also included Dionisia, Shalani Soledad, Eraserheads, and newlyweds Sen. Mar Roxas and Korina Sanchez.

In Yahoo!’s celebrity search rankings, Reyes topped the list, beating Kris Aquino, who touched people’s hearts during her mother’s wake as she detailed the last days of the former leader Corazon Aquino.

It also included Locsin, Park, Pamela Bianca Manalo, Marian Rivera, Jackson, Coco Martin, Anne Curtis, and Judy Ann Santos.
Halili, Rivera, Kho, Magalona, and Jackson, meantime, were among the top mobile searches for Philippines.

The annual review, which accounts for billions of searches, is a distinct way to look at people’s interests and to identify the ways they use the Web to find information and breaking news as it happens, said Yahoo!
