MANILA, Philippines -- Actress Angel Locsin is surprised with the strong box-office performance of her film "One More Try" despite its restricted rating and heavy topic.
"Sa totoo lang, masayang-masaya kami. Napakaswerte namin to think na R-13 'yung pelikula natin," Locsin told ABS-CBN News on Wednesday during the special screening of the film which also stars Dingdong Dantes, Angelica Panganiban and Zanjoe Marudo.
Despite its powerhouse cast, Locsin admitted that she didn't expect the "overwhelming" response to the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry.
Sobrang nakaka-touch talaga, sobrang overwhelming 'yung response. So, thank you talaga," she said.
So laking pasasalamat lang," she added.
With the positive feedback about her performance in the film, Locsin admitted she's still hoping to be named best actress at the MMFF awards night on Thursday despite stiff competition from veteran actress Nora Aunor for "Thy Womb."
According to Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino, "One More Try" grossed P13 million on its first day in theaters nationwide.
The film came in third in the ranking of the first-day top-earners, with comedy film "Sisterakas" in first place.
