Stars gear up for 2009 MMFF awards night
MANILA, Philippines – The stars of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entries are not expecting to win any prize at the awards night Monday.
Some said they would rather wish for the success of the festival as a whole than get an award. Others, meantime, maintained that making moviegoers happy is more than enough for them.
"Ang importante sa akin for this movie ay makapagbigay kami ng kasiyahan sa bawat pamilya," said Filipino boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao of "Wapakman."
Dolphy, lead star of “Nobody, Nobody But Juan,” also chimed in: "Ako, hindi na ako umaasa. I will just pray for the best."
Actress-host Ruffa Gutierrez of "Shake, Rattle & Roll XI" also shied away from the possibility of bringing home an acting award. "Acting award? Hindi na. Grabe, horror naman ito. But I just hope na tangkilikin nila lahat ng pelikula sa film festival."
Megastar Sharon Cuneta of “Mano Po 6: A Mother’s Love” and Angelica Panganiban of “I Love You, Goodbye” are strong contenders in the best actress prize category.
Cuneta did not deny that, like other nominees, she also wants to bring home the prize, but she is not expecting anything.
"Ang importante lang napansin ang performance ko. Siyempre, sino ba naman ang ayaw manalo ng award?" Cuneta said.
Sen. Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr., the lead star of "Panday," has also expressed his wish to be named this year’s MMFF’s best actor.
"Sana, sana, sana. Pero kung hindi, okay lang," Revilla quipped.
The MMFF awards night will be held at the SMX Convention Center on Monday night.
