MANILA, Philippines -- Now past their bitter history, Nora Aunor and former President Joseph "Erap" Estrada appeared to have renewed ties at the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Awards Night.

Superstar Nora Aunor

During the awarding ceremony held Thursday night at the Meralco Theater in Ortigas, the former action star handed the veteran actress her 8th Best Actress trophy from the same film festival.

Aunor won the top honor for her portrayal as a Badjao midwife in the Brillante Mendoza film "Thy Womb."

On Thursday, Estrada and Aunor were seen hugging on stage as the "Superstar" received her award.

Noting the positive reactions to her shared moment with the former president, Aunor told radio dzMM Friday, "Mas maganda sa buhay, o nakakagaan sa buhay na wala kang kaaway."

The veteran actress originally campaigned for Estrada, but in 2001, amid protests that eventually led to his ouster, Aunor turned her back on the former President and even accused him of beating her.

"Ang sabi ko naman, kung halimbawang nagkamali ka sa isang tao, hindi kahiya-hiya o hindi naman dapat ikahiya na humingi ka ng tawad," Aunor said.

"Maski nga 'yung wala kang kasalanan, [maaaring makipag-ayos]. Hindi bale sila ang manira sa'yo, basta ikaw [na sa tama]," she said.
